Varan is an ancient super species of reptile, who has existed for millions of years. After being freed from suspended animation after the ice age, he took refuge in a lake in Japan. During this time, he was discovered by a tribe of natives, who believed he was some sort of god. After a couple of centuries Varan faded into obscurity, especially after he went to sleep at the bottom of his lake for a few hundred years. He was eventually awakened by the seismic charges of some geographic researchers in 1970. Once disturbed from his slumber, he went on a rampage across Japan. He was eventually found and recruited by the Space Kaiju Forces, who promised him great power and teamed him up with Manda and Maguma. As Varan and his team battled against G-Force and the Earth Kaiju Alliance, the trio began to notice how compassionate their "enemies" were and how they were mistreated by there masters and higher ups. One while fighting in a battle for a nuclear energy core, Varan's gliding membrane was damaged and he began falling into a pit of lava but, just in time, Earth Kaiju ally Mirana swooped in and saved him. This act of kindness, caused Varan and his teammates to realize they were fighting on the wrong side, leading them to join the Earth Kaiju Alliance. To this day, Varan continues to go on missions with Manda and Maguma.
