The Yeti or Snow Monsters are ancient semi sentient creatures who dwell in the Himalayan mountains but also inhabit Mountain ranges throughout Asia.
The power Rangers were unfortunate to have to venture through the territory of a clan of these creatures, while trying to find the home of the evil MONDO the magician.
The snow monsters were not aggressive until Rita and Zedd blasted the caves of the creatures provoking them into fits of rage, and they assumed the Rangers being the culprits attacked by pelting them with rocks and huge snowballs, luckily for the rangers the snow monsters fear two creatures in their world one is the evil magician, the other a surly old grouch cursed by the wizard, and the latter's appearance made them flee in terror.
