Joseph “Marlo” Cartier, (1895 - 23 mai 1962) était un soldat Canadien Français pendant la Grande Guerre et mon arrière-arrière grand-père.

On estime qu'il est né en 1895. Il était originaire de Saint-Robert , au Québec . Il a été conscrit dans le 22e Battalion (Canadien Francais) du Corps Expéditionnaire Canadien probablement après la Crise de la conscription de 1917 . Je ne sais pas où il s'est battu en Europe, mais une chose est sûre: il a perdu l'un de ses avant-bras au combat et il a été ramené à la maison.

Quand il est rentré chez lui, il n'était pas le même homme que quand il est parti. Si on lui demandait s'il avait "Tué des gens", il entrait dans un état de colère, crier, casser des meubles et dire "Vous étiez pas là et j'espère que personne ne subisse ce que j'ai vécu!". (C'est ce que mon grand-père m'a dit).

Le 23 mai 1962, il s'éteint finalement et repose maintenant en paix.

Si vous vous demandez pourquoi on n'a pas vraiment les yeux ou les cheveux et le visage en général, c'est parce que j'étais incapable de trouver une photo de lui. Même le ministère Anciens Combattants Canada ne pouvait pas et m'a dit: "En général, le les photographies des soldats ont été prises par des photographes commerciaux, qui étaient payés par le soldat ou sa famille, à des fins personnelles.".

Lest we forget. "Ne l'oublions pas."

Comme je n'avais aucune photo de lui, je devais trouver un modèle, à savoir Ryoichi Kobayashi, un Canadien Japonais qui s'est enrôlé dans l'armée canadienne pendant la Première Guerre mondiale.

Joseph “Marlo” Cartier, (1895 – May 23, 1962) was a French Canadian soldier during the Great War and my great great grand father.

He was estimated to born in the year 1895. He was from Saint-Robert, Quebec. He was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force’s 22e Battalion (Canadien Francais) probably in the aftermath of the Conscription Crisis of 1917. I do not know where he fought in Europe but one thing is certain he lost one of his forearm in combat and he was brought back home.

When he came back home he was not the same man as when he left. If asked if he had "killed people", he would have entered a state of anger shout, break furniture and say "You weren’t there, and hope no one has to go through what i've been!". (This is what my grand father told me).
On May 23, 1962 he finally extinguished and now rest in peace.
If you're wondering why doesn’t really have eyes or hair and the face in general it’s because I was unable to find a picture of him, even the department Veterans Affairs Canada was unable to and said to me, "In general, the photographs of the soldiers were taken by commercial photographers, who were paid by the soldier or his family, for personal purposes.".

Since i had no pictures of him i had to find a model, the model being Ryoichi Kobayashi, a Japanese Canadian who enlisted in the Canadian Army during the First World War.
