THE BRIDE OF GODZILLA(?)

Bio:

Based on a project proposal by one Doctor Hideo Shida, “the Bride of Godzilla,” or “RoboMusume” (Robot Daughter) was intended to be the first anti-Godzilla weapon produced by the JSDF with the express purpose of fighting and subduing kaiju.

Shida, a contemporary of Doctor Yamane, drafted an elaborate proposition, complete with extensive design documents, intended for immediate funding and construction. The proposal followed quickly in the wake of GODZILLA II and ANGUIRUS’s battle in Osaka, and formally submitted in 1956.

The plan called for not only a multitude of kaiju-fighting attachments and weaponry, but a formidable fighting form, designed for “grace and agility,” and reinforced with superior armor and battle strength.

On paper, it seemed like a fantastical and marvelous idea for defending Japan against the inevitable threat of future kaiju assaults.

However, a few questionable decisions prevented this project from coming to fruition.

The first, and perhaps most obvious, was why did the robot so specifically resemble a human female, right down to molded breasts, lips, and even a polymer material designed to resemble hair.

Doctor Shida said that the design reasoning was twofold: the first was that the creature, while fully capable of fighting kaiju to a standstill, could also potentially SEDUCE monsters like Godzilla into compliance.

Then, upon returning to Godzilla’s lair (which Shida theorized in a completely separate 42 page document, was an undersea “hollow space” inhabited by giant reptiles, mermaids, and prehistoric birds), the robot could potentially self-destruct using the nuclear reactor that powers itself.

The second reason? The robot was intended as a tribute to his adopted daughter, who had sadly passed from this life...according to Shida.

The defense council politely declined Shida’s proposal, citing Japan’s firm anti-nuclear-weapons policy, and the idea that Godzilla would PROBABLY not be interested in the human female form. But the fact that his daughter wasn’t dead and merely left home to go to university didn’t help his case either.

Shida DID go on to help formulate theories on Hollow Earth ecosystems and where certain kaiju might live within the Pacific, not to mention he became a senior engineer on several robotics projects for the budding UNGCC. But he was “encouraged” to work from his home lab after he started insisting on bringing his “wife” with him...who was obviously a robot designed to look extremely similar to his original RoboMusume plan.

People don’t talk about him much these days.
