Description
Ultimate Lifeform
SHIN GODZILLA
Height: 120 meters (max)
Mass: 70,000 metric tons (max)
Bio:
In the summer of 2016, a civilian pleasure boat, rented under the name of Professor Goro Maki, as well as his shoes and personal effects, were discovered floating in Tokyo Bay. Evidence of a suicide were initially reported. The boat was at the center of the bay, and a source of interest as the government investigated the point of origin from a new nightmare rising from the waters around Japan.
For decades, tensions brewed in North America over the possibility of kaiju attacks on their home soil. Thankfully, any incidents were few and far between, and could reliably be handled by the United States’ obscenely well-funded military. It wasn’t until the Crystal Incursion of 2007 that even under the auspices of the EDF, America tasted the true threat of a Type 2 kaiju assault under a Level 3 Extinction Event. The US Government began looking in to more pre-emptive directives to protect themselves and their own territory.
After all, while Japan tinkered with its robots and put its faith in pagan god-monsters, the USA could surely pump more resources into creating a super-weapon both unstoppable and controllable.
I mean...we did it before...Didn’t we?
The creature rose from the water, steam rising from its superheated hide, and spilling liquids from various orifices that scalded flesh and corroded steel. Flopping around in violent conflict with an alien environment, the life form quickly began adapting to its new surroundings. The JSDF was quick to intercept but the animal escaped.
With the recent discovery of Gojirasaurus prodigious making itself known to the world, and now this new creature, which shockingly resembled Godzilla as well, the government of Japan convened an emergency meeting to propose new anti-kaiju efforts. A new team, lead by young and ambitious politician Rando Yaguchi, dedicated themselves to unraveling this new threat while G-Force searched for this “new Godzilla.”
It was about this time that Yaguchi’s team recovered Maki’s notes. After losing his wife to radiation sickness in a badly botched nuclear accident, Maki left Japan to work for the Americans. Eventually, his brilliance in genetic engineering was put to use on “Project G.” The prevailing wisdom of the US government was that, since the kaiju threat was still very real and could not be curtailed by anything but OTHER kaiju, the US might as well make kaiju themselves. Controllable kaiju.
It was a ludicrous idea, but Maki threw himself into his work. It was only when he finally saw the growing embryonic creature that he realized what he was about to unleash on the world.
Through no small amount of careful planning, Maki fled with the football-sized embryo, as well as much evidence as he could muster, to Japan, hoping to give it to G-Force.
Unfortunately, Maki knew he was being followed. Anticipating the end, Maki cursed his existence, cursed both the country that took his wife and the country that sought to take his own. So he released the containment unit, and dumped it into the bay. When the assassins arrived to take his life and the evidence, it was nowhere to be found, so Maki was murdered. The assassins made the scene to look like a suicide, but couldn’t find Maki’s notes before the kaiju erupted from the bay! The ship was nearly capsized, and the assassins fled.
What happened next was well-documented. The creature, nicknamed SHIN GODZILLA, rose once again from the sea in a new and terrifying form. Cutting its way across Japan, the full might of G-Force, still at a loss for Mecha after the Crystal Incursion, couldn’t put a dent in the thing. Eventually, the monster WAS stopped by the combined efforts of an international coalition spearheaded by Yaguchi dubbed “Operation Yashiori.”
Shin Godzilla was defeated by repeat injections of a compound designed to freeze its body. The compound was only discovered after Maki’s notes revealed the monster’s genetic code, indicating an advanced ability to evolve in response to its environment.
The freezing compound was only a temporary solution. It could not kill the creature, and the US government, eager to cover their tracks, were perfectly willing to destroy most of Tokyo to ensure the beast’s annihilation. After a tremendous loss of life and massive destruction to Tokyo not seen since the battle between Godzilla II and Destoroyah, the Japanese government remained steadfast in its insistence that Shin Godzilla was contained.
The monster’s frozen body was immediately set upon by a massive effort to cut it apart and keep every individual piece in a consistently frozen state. If the Yashiori compound even slightly wavered in its dosage, the individual pieces could begin to grow and regenerate into new Shin Godzillas. Inspection of the body had already revealed slowly growing smaller creatures each about 10 meters, indicating that Shin Godzilla was already evolving a counter-measure to the freezing agent in the form of smaller offspring that could be potentially immune to it. These bodies were also cut apart and distributed to various storage facilities and warehouses across the country and even the world for constant supervision...
Abilities/Aspects:
- Is able to fire a concentrated atomic heat beam from the mouth, but requires time to supercharge to full power.
- Constantly evolving, Shin Godzilla is potentially the most dangerous creature on the planet and if given the chance, could supplant humanity easily, and even give the other kaiju a run for their money.
- Extreme regeneration
- Genetic code still evolving, the Yashiori compound must be constantly tweaked in order to keep the remains dormant.
- The hide is initially soft and vulnerable, but quickly hardens in subsequent forms.
- Any pieces larger than a few tons that are blown off the monster can immediately begin growing into a new creature.

Absolutely fantastic. Well done.
In a way, it kind of reminds me a bit of Tetsuo's transformation in Akira, especially with the extra limbs/vertebra growing at different points on Shin Godzilla's body.
Adding to my faves.

I gotta say, you somehow made a nightmarish Godzilla look even more horrifying (especially the depiction of the third from essentially ripping itself out of the second form like a bug molting). The addition of extra eye balls on the fourth form also feels like a nice nod to one of the deleted scenes where they find a part of its flesh after the 'Who Will Know' sequence that is littered with eyeballs and teeth.

If shin Godzilla's design had been presented by anyone other than Toho, Godzilla fans would have shit in their collective pants in outrage. The 1998 Godzilla is fucking awful and its better than Shin Godzilla. Why do people defend this monstrosity? It's an HR Geiger designed Pokemon reject.

It acts like Godzilla, looks like Godzilla, and has the attributes of Godzilla. It's just taking the 1954 design to its natural conclusion. Calm down, Jesus.

How does it not look like Godzilla? It looks like the '54 suit, but burnt and skeletal, with weirder body proportions.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Why anyone thought this design was passable for Godzilla is beyond me. New space Godzilla design? Sure, still not good but whatever. But for Godzilla itself? It's completely ridiculous. It looks like a poorly crafted taxidermy of Godzilla.

Well, just take Shin and the 1954 one. You will see how it recalls the design, but more gruesomely mutated and burned.

Great job, although, given what I've heard recently, it seems as though we're never going to get a follow up on the tail things. This is because it appears that Toho is scrapping the Shin Godzilla 2 in favor of doing a Marvel-style shared universe with the monsters.
To be honest, though, I think that Shin Godzilla kind of works better as a stand-alone movie.

Well Shin Godzilla 2 hasn't actually been cancelled, it would have to be in production first before it even could be. Remember that Toho signed a contract with Legendary to not make any more Live-Action Godzilla films until 2020, so Shin Godzilla 2 is only an option for the future. Maybe outside of the Toho Cinematic Universe we'll get a continuation, my personal theory for it is that Shin's cells evolve to become different kinds of Toho Kaiju (Kind of like Gaira and Sanda did from Frankenstein).

I think had they just cut the ending at that long shot of Godzilla, it would have worked beautifully as a standalone. It would have been impossible to make out the detail of the tail breaking apart into the next forms, and it would have been a fitting end.
Having said that, it still works as a standalone, but that ending shot does kind of suggest they wanted to expand on it (there is of course dialogue about Godzilla waking up and the US nuking it when it does, but that could be easier dismissed). How would that even have worked, though? It's clear that Godzilla's next form wasn't a form we have come to know as Godzilla. And is that something that could be explored in other mediums instead of film? (Like comics or manga?) I think that it could be possible to have Shin Godzilla in a form similar to the one shown here in the new Godzillaverse.

RexBlazer1 In reply to giftheck [2018-06-05 20:29:10 +0000 UTC]
Either they wanted to expand on it, or they just wanted to make a cliffhanger just in case of a sequel.
Regardless, it should be interesting to see what they come up with next.

HOW?! HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO MAKE SHIN GOJIRA EVEN MORE HORRIFYING THAN THE MOVIE COUNTERPART?! Or, at least more monstrous than the original with all those bits, and pieces, and eyes, and limbs, and blood, and.........well, you get the idea. Either way, this is an incredible piece of work, and once again I bow to a skill FAR superior to my own. As they say, may the good lord smile on you.
