BIO -

From the notes of Dr. Ishirō Serizawa:

May 2014

“MUTO Biology Files: SHINOMURA, male and female sexual dimorphism, behavioral, and life cycle analysis.

The male of the species begins life as a small nymph, roughly the size of a large dog or even a man, based on the remains found after the Battle of San Francisco.

The nymph then begins to feed on its host’s energy stores. This life cycle is not unlike that of the Tarantula Hawk, which attacks and paralyzes its prey, laying eggs in the body for its young to feed and grow, even while the host still lives.

My hypothesis, already presented to the MONARCH council, is that Gojirasaurus prodigious were mortal enemies of the Shinomura super species, and the Shinomura, while smaller and weaker than the ancient Gojirasaurs, were capable of incapacitating the reptilian beasts with pack-hunting tactics.

As the nymphs grow, they become larger and more powerful, with burrowing capabilities. They would gorge as much nuclear energy as they could muster before this process began, and dig themselves deep underground to feed on their own bloated bodies’ energy stores, as their bodies changed.

The males are smaller and more agile than the females. Not to mention that they are capable of flight. The females, by contrast, are positively massive, with armored bodies and powerful limbs.

Males apparently provide an “offering” to the females - evidently a nuclear-storage organ of some kind, or perhaps a smaller creature that also lives on radioactive energy...either way it is similar to the nuclear device delivered to the female in San Francisco. It is not a stretch to surmise that, if a male’s offering is not satisfactory to the female, she will either chase him off or kill him outright.

While the female is nest-making, the male will patrol the area and protect her with his life. The female also possesses fearsome protective instincts of the nest.

One curious aspect of these creatures is their bizarre mix of traits. They possess both endo- and exoskeletons; they have compound eyes; they have powerful electrical sensitivity; they have pupating life-cycles...

In this way, they are somewhat similar to Gojirasaurus prodigious - a creature that also possesses a mix of traits from other terrestrial organisms, such as gills, lungs, scales, a warm-blooded body with cold-blooded characteristics...it is almost as though the creatures from this mysterious nuclear-rich epoch of the Earth were the progenitors of all life on our planet...

We are finally learning more about the so-called 'Atomic Era'..."

ABILITIES/ASPECTS:

  • Armored hide resistant to most conventional weaponry
  • Capable of a variety of long-distance echolocation and other bioacoustics
  • Naturally produced EMP ability seemingly evolved to counter the electromagnetic properties of Gojirasaurus prodigious’s atomic breath.
  • Can lay up to 200 eggs at a time
  • Female produces a near-constant sphere of influence that nullifies almost all electronic equipment.
  • Piercing claws can penetrate even Godzilla’s skin

PFFFFFFT. Okay, lol, sorry to disappoint you. I found the Shinomura from the comics to be boring and derivative in a mediocre story that already contradicts the movie. I just took the name "Shinomura" and applied it to the MUTO's to give them a proper name.

I'm not so sure but, did you by any chance use larva megaguirus as reference for the larva muto?

It would seem the original comic book Shinomura was used as the base design for the Larva form. Just lacks the wings.

I thought the comic was shit but shinomura's design was the only thing I liked. Mainly because it reminds me of a better kaiju, megaguirus

wait wait wait, why is this shinomura? Wasn't the shinomura from the comic a different creature a parasitic colony of cells? while both named M.U.T.O. at first, shinomura was given a distinct name while the two movie monsters never got one before being killed. So I'm curious, why mix the two? Sure these MUTOs are also parasitic in nature as well, they are two distinct monsters.

Also will we see any of the comic stuff like the Trilopods and the Godzilla in hell stuff?

ProudZillaFan In reply to onyx801 [2018-04-27 11:06:35 +0000 UTC]

While I'm not KaijuSamurai, my guess is that he thought that the original Shinomura was kind of redundant. The original Mutos represent Legendary Godzillas ultimate nemesis, while Shinomura doesn't really add much to Legendary Godzillas story. So, he might have decided to combine the two because of that very reason. That is only my guess though. The larva stage of Shinomura does take some design cues of the original Shinomura, although they are a bit subtle.

Well, he did mention the Trilopod invasion in the Godzilla Neo timeline, so they are pretty much guaranteed to show. I'm not sure about stuff from Godzilla in Hell though. That we have to wait and see.

KaijuX In reply to BlazerAjax220 [2018-04-25 19:35:59 +0000 UTC]

Basiclally. Although it isn't obvious at first glance, the Shinomura Larva takes a lot of cues from the comic-book Shinomura.

First of all, I want to point out how damn incredible the details are in the drawings, and the information! Second of all, I was wondering, what app or site did you use to make this? I’m currently stuck using adobe draw, and it just doesn’t have a tool to blend colors, or make transitions between colors smoother. It’s really bugging me, and I can’t find another app to use.

Strikerprime In reply to ??? [2018-04-25 01:13:35 +0000 UTC]

Love what you did with the male and female MUTO's. They're subtly different but still look very much the same (which is appropriate given the unique appearance of these particular Kaiju). I especially love how you made the larval form essentially look like the Meganulon creatures in the 1956 Rodan movie, as those creatures looked nothing like dragonfly nymphs (but were still regarded as being them) but their overall appearance would fit well with the MUTO's given how they're some sort of unclassified form of arthropod.

One interesting thing I liked about the MUTOS is that there was actual sexual dimorphism in the species. Like how the Male MUTO was smaller than the Female but could fly, and the Female MUTO was much larger than the Male but had no wings. Such physical differences between genders are common in many insect species, so it's cool they added that quality to the MUTOS. You normally don't see these kinds of things in monster movies, let alone Giant Monster movies.

Plus, for one of the more smaller monsters Godzilla has had to face, the MUTO's really did put up a fight with the Big G. At least they were one of his more tougher opponents (when they're attacking together).

Amazing job as always, and I look forward to seeing ShinGoji. Are you going to do all of its forms (including the first form even though all we saw was a tail)?
