Love the cover. Personally, I hope it's the Heisei design for Godzilla, or at least a combination of Heisei/Millenium designs. And one has to wonder... will Zilla fair well against Big G? He'd better move fast and strike quickly if he hopes to survive a confrontation with the real Godzilla!

As the cover reveals, it's probably going to be the Millenium Godzilla (probably Godzilla 2004). I bet the American Godzilla will certainly stand a chance against the Japanese Godzilla.

Well, seeing as this fight is going to be two issues long, and that the Zilla is most likely going to be the one from Godzilla: The Series, then I think Zilla will have a decent fighting chance. Sure, he may not win, but at least the battle would be spectacular.

The American Godzilla in this comic is probably going to be a new version of the Zilla (created in 2004) character. I highly doubt it's going to be the animated Godzilla (1998-2000). I think that character has had its run. Which creature will win or lose we cannot know yet, it may even be a tie, but unfortunately we'll have to wait and see. Anyway, whatever the result, I'm placing my bet on the American Godzilla. I also heard the IDW Zilla was going to be the IDW Godzilla's most deadliest foe (hence the two issues).

And what would happen if you opened that comic book and Zilla started spitting Green Atomic Fire and the H.E.A.T. team made an appearance? Would that get you to shut the fuck up about the Zilla/"American Godzilla" debate for good?

Nope, that would only show that Godzilla Jr. (1998-2000) was featured in the comic and that the creature was choosen to be named Zilla by the creator(s) of the comic, but it is not connected to the "Godzilla and Zilla Debate". And I also highly doubt the IDW Zilla will be representing Godzilla Jr. (1998-2000) or will have anything to do with the storyline or the characters of "Godzilla: The Series" or the 1998 film.
I'd still go with that (because of the choosen name for the IDW creature) the IDW Zilla is representing a new version of the Zilla character created in 2004 and that it has no connections to the 1998 film and tv-series because of this comic (just like the Japanese films) having no official continuation with the American Godzilla world.
The Zilla (2004) character is simply the American Godzilla in Japanese Godzilla kaiju-form (so to speak), a new monster that exists only in the Japanese Godzilla's universe and has no relation to Godzilla (1998) or Godzilla Jr. (1998-2000) and the American Godzilla universe.

One of several great ideas would be to see IDW Zilla win over IDW Godzilla but then the military or another monster or weapon succeeds to save IDW Godzilla and stop IDW Zilla, and maybe IDW Zilla would get a revenge in an epic battle at the end of the comic's storyline. One of several possible and great ideas in my opinion. Anyway, I also hope IDW Zilla survives just to be reintroduced later on in the comic.

No he dies and then it's discovered he/she laid a egg so the we get Zilla Jr. so we can get references to the cartoon series. We'd also get Cyberzilla.

How about... No. Thats already been done, and as far as I've understood it, the makers of the comics do not have the rights to use the Godzilla Jr. (1998-2000) and Cyber-Godzilla incarnations. They only have the rights to the Zilla-character created in 2004-2008 and from that they create the second incarnation of that character in this comic.

I certainly prefer IDW Zilla over IDW Godzilla, but I prefer Godzilla (1998) over both IDW Zilla and IDW Godzilla, and all other monsters for that matter.

As a kid, when I watched the '98 movie I was very pissed of like everyone else; however, I watched the movie again about a year ago and for what it is, its not a bad movie. My main problem now(like many other people) was how they treated him. They have him running from the military all the time until they eventually kill him. He seemed so weak. I do like the design of Zilla and thought it made for a good monster.

Yeah, I understand you might have been pretty pissed off, I would too if my life was different. Thats usually the case, when they first saw the film, they hated it, but when rewatched, it's ok. I understand that you might have wanted to see the film in a different way, even though I loved the film it's sad that you didn't get as much entertainment from it. But at least we can hope that you'll get what you want in the upcoming 2014 film, right? I don't know about you, but personally, I feel excited about this new film!
