Pre-Group History:
Spike was born in a litter of two; his mother was of age and had already grown sick by the time she gave birth to them. The dog who sired them had been borrowed for this task by the female's owners, who made a living from selling pups of all sorts. Although Spike was born resembling his mother entirely, his brother had strange features that were unlikely for a canadian shepherd -such traits lifted up suspicion about the sire's origin, and the owners questioned whether he was truly a Canadian shepherd. Either way, having had many litters before, the female was weary and hopeless, caring for her pups like she knew they would be taken away from her. She, however, died of her illness before either pups were taken. Spike and his brother Rifle had a strong bond until Rifle was given away to a kennel for not attending the morphology of a canadian shepherd, and for the possibility of harming the small family's business.
Spike was the last of his breed in the house; growing up to teen age in there, he watched the misery in the eyes of those who lived to reproduced; he was determined not to have that future for himself - which was doomed to happen if he grew into an adult and no one adopted him. So he did his best to impress visitors and possible buyers; at last, a single policeman in the neighborhood who came to ask for german shepherds instead ran across Spike; since the dog seemed, to him, obedient and self-controlled, he took him right away - he brought the pup into the training police academy. Out of misery pit, in new lands, finally thinking past the next day, Spike gave all he had in training. Every task given, every command, he did everything he could to continuously level up and at last, graduate as a police dog. With impecable smelling and defensive skills, the batallion took him along in a mission on a local town in order to arrest a local cartel that had begun to spread over their own city.
Once in town, the cartel reacted as though they had been expecting the police all along. There were grenades, bullets from all sides, chaos took over the streets for two whole days. At some point, while Spike had been told to attack, the troop that had him was forced to retreat as grenades were thrown at them. With luck, the dog managed to get away from the explosion, but got lost from the men in the mess; looking for them, they were gone.
Roaming in the streets, Spike later on stumbled over a television shop where he saw the man who had brought him into the police - delegate Leslie Murr speaking in one of the screens. He couldn't quite hear what they were saying, but there were no longer signs of helicopters in the city he was, which... he assumed meant they had left. Nonetheless, Spike did not lose hope - they would come back to get him! They had to... right?
Family: He never met the male who sired him and his brother; his brother was given away to someone else; his last memories of his mother are from his puphood, shortly before she was taken to be sacrificated due to a tumor found in her throat. Spike was then given to the police as a police officer adopted him and brought him into the training academy.
