Dawn of Enlightenment II

“To attain the SANCTUM REGNUM, in other words, the knowledge and power of the Magi, there are four indispensable conditions–an intelligence illuminated by study, an intrepidity which nothing can check, a will which cannot be broken, and a prudence which nothing can corrupt and nothing intoxicate. TO KNOW, TO DARE, TO WILL, TO KEEP SILENCE–such are the four words of the Magus, inscribed upon the four symbolical forms of the sphinx.”

What shall I say about this piece?
Maybe nothing or at least very little because the less the better.
The quotation above is true for non-magickians too.
This piece is a follow up to my other drawing titled “Dawn of Enlightenment” – this time with a woman and not a goat-faced man, and an inversed pentagram (completing the opposites). The Four Elements in the circles refer to the Four Powers of the Sphinx – to Know, to Will, to Dare and to Keep Silent.

Something additionally: I am tired of occult quarrels about different belief systems, about what is meant by this and what is meant by that and what is true and what not (and what this symbol means and what not). Especially when my art is in focus. I am tired of all those “esoteric” and “spiritual” people, who are trapped in some sort of false belief to be better than others or to know more than others just because they read some books on magick or had some peeks behind the veil of things.

In all those years in which I have been “studying the occult” I surely had some changing insights too and collected some kind of knowledge and basic understanding of different systems and life itself. (I am by no means a magician besides making magick with pen and pencil – if you like to call the process of creating art magick). But I am not running around with my “knowledge” shoving it up into people’s faces as though it were my dick.
I would like to think of myself that this studying has made me more humble and calm (at least sometimes). Helping people getting forward on their level without trying to force them onto mine (like a certain proverb is saying) – even though this level is nothing special. I am still battling against my own demons. I am far from having answers or being enlightened, all I have is my art and often I don’t know exactly what I want to say with my art myself.

But I have become a happier person in general – even though my drawings seem to be somehow “dark” to most people. But this is solely a question of personal taste.

So, take this drawing like all my other drawings too and see (and feel) what you would like to when looking at it, regardless of my own ideas of its meaning. In the end it is just a pretty woman in a floral border.

However, maybe one idea: Enlightenment (don’t take this word to strictly) starts with knowing yourself, with analyzing yourself, with asking questions. What is it that you want, why do you want it, who are you, why are you the way you are? What are the false ideas and beliefs in your mind which b(l)ind you? Enlightenment starts with rebellion. Rebellion against your enemy: yourself.
