Description A self portrait.

I have been really sick this past week...lost weight, could not eat, could not speak. I have been unhappy with what I am reaching for, and still my hand is bound to the goal because, in some rational way, I want what I do not want for reasons I can not forgive myself. What do you do when you want to be something that you are not? What happens when we starve our soul to feel our mouths?

Original watercolour on 150lb cold press with hand blended 24kt gold. Measures 11 x 15in (27.9 x38.1cm).

Crappy lighting makes for a poor image. Will repost later.

The face shows what we are. .. turned away, those who look do not have an idea of our identity. Hmm... why do you want to be something you are not?

It is true, a face is revealing of who we are in terms of identity, but how we hold ourselves (our poster) or do not hold ourselves also says something of who we are.

I am on a career path...in a rat race. We want to be useful people to society, to our families, to ourselves...but who really loves what they get paid for? not so many that I know. It is a catch-22. We work hard to become something we strive for only to realize in the process that we have forgotten who we are at our core, what makes us happy, and why we keep going. I resolve all of this by saying to myself that a jobs is a means to an end...do not get caught up in the means lest you wish to bring yourself to an end.

I am feeling a little like being on path to a career with a paycheck takes me far from the happy path my sould would take to Dharma-like bliss. I feel lost.

Yes, it's sad how people compete to get certain things but in the end lose the whole point of it all and regret it in the end. But maybe you can find some career where you can be who you are and be happy at what you do and get paid at the same time. That would be nice.
