Description
Finally a new matte from me. I heard a while back that I do too many dark scenes (you know who you are!), so I tried to challenge myself to do a daytime scene, and i'm pretty proud of it. I haven't had time to do anything art related in a while, so it's nice to be able to somewhat finish something. I've only been able to work on this on the weekends, and sometimes i'm not even able to then, so it's been difficult to get this matte done. I wasn't entirely done with it, so i'm a bit bummed on that, but it has been on my computer for too long.As far as my matte paint skills go, I can see a progression with this piece and my last few, so that's good. I just hope you all can back that up for me. But anyway, I hope it wont be another month until I submit something new again.

Sure, as long as the image itself isn't used, go right ahead. Hope it turns out good!

It has the romantic feel of a 19th century landscape painting. Lovely change of pace for you. Not that I mind the "Dark stuff" mind you...

See, dosn't it feel good to have a bright, daytime scene in your gallery? look at all those details you had to force yourself to include which you would have otherwise hidden in shadows
it looks fantastic, probably one of your nicest scenes so far
And lucky you have Vue, since I think that will be a standard tool for all matte painters one day...I wonder if a certain matte painter that's been mentioned 3 times already has gotten his hands on Vue yet?

Yeah, it actually does feel pretty good to have a day scene in my gallery, I will actually do another pretty soon once I finish up this current project. I didn't use vue for this one, but yes it is a very powerful tool once you know what the hell you doing, which I still have no idea yet .
Thanks for the kind words man

definitely has a dylan cole feel to it, really gorgeous work mate. Inspires me to do a matte painting again, although my own attempts never really were that serious..

Nice image, reminds me a lot of Dylan Coles work, especially his image Hudson City, similar lighting techniques and colours. You have improved a lot with the matte painting but you need to imrpove with texturing, the objects you placed in yourslf such as the wall, the boats, and the person are very smooth looking, very little if any surface texture and they stand out too much because of it, its the problem with matte painting, as the image is mainly comprised of real life photos it means you also have to strive for a photorealistic look to anything you paint into the image, its hard but even subtle things like overlaying a texture of a rock onto that wall or even onto the ships will have a significant effect, try messing around with texturing your painted objects.
