Again, an overactive imagination and a LOT of hours of gametime rears its head.

The following commission comes from artist and its a followup/sequel to another certain pic involving Penny and Futaba but this time, not only does Penny get her own Phantom Thief costume, she gets to team up with Akane Hasegawa, daughter of Zenkichi.

EDIT: If you have ever been on YouTube looking for music for Persona 5, you may have come across an "Awakening" challenge where people make up dialogue for the awakening of an OC's Persona power (some have even done voice recordings for it) so I decided "hey, why not?" and dreamt up one for Penny. For this particular one, lets assume that M.A.D. has a scheme involving the cognitive world and somehow, Penny gets the Phantom Thieves help to change the heart of Dr. Claw and a few of his agents. (And lets also assume for a moment in some way, Zenkichi and his daughter somehow get roped into this.)

So, you have finally decided to make your stand

The voice in Penny's head echoed in her thoughts as a sharp pain suddenly pierced her mind. The young girl clutched the sides of her head on instinct almost immediately and tightly shut her eyes.

"What--what is happening to me?" Penny growled, doubling over in pain.

There was...something talking to her. It was vaguely known to Penny a part of her she had been familiar with but she had no idea just how it was that she knew.

It was all she could do to keep her focus as a few feet away from her stood the shadow version of her uncle's nemesis, Dr. Claw.

A large, metallic helmet, crafted to resemble a demonic feline (which Morgana found offensive--and he would remind you at this point that he was not a cat) covered his face, only showing the lights of his eyes. Dressed in a black suit and cape, holding a large garish looing scepter, and wearing spiked metal gauntlets, he looked every bit the part of a typical cartoon dictator with an overblown ego to match.

But she could not focus on that, not on the shadow's boast about his knowledge of Penny's skills, or even his promise to kill her uncle before her eyes. She only could focus on the pain spreading in her head.

You've done more than enough to protect your uncle from this monster. You have burdened yourself with a responsibility no child should ever have to bear on their shoulders to save the only family you have.

"Penny, are you ok?" Panther asked in concern as the other Phantom Thieves looked on, but Joker raised his hand, letting her know not to interfere. They had all seen it before, then have all been through it themselves. He knew what Penny had to endure. She needed to see it through.

"Ah, the stress of looking after that bumbling buffoon of an officer had finally gotten to you!" Shadow Claw jeered (Futaba winced, the mere fact that he had to be referred to as that annoyed her for various reasons)

"It doesn't matter, because I will be rid of him before long, but not before I let him know that all his work is a lie. Everything he ever done to stop me was nothing more than either sheer luck or your constant meddling, and the truth will break him worse than I will break you--"

"JUST SHUT THE HELL UP!!"

Penny roared at the top of her lungs as she punched the ground hard, shattering the gravel beneath her.

Blood slowly dripped from her knuckles as she raised her right fist.

"You will not lay a finger on Uncle Gadget. Because if you do, I WILL BURY YOU!!"

The voice spoke to her again in the depths of her mind now, but it was much louder, more confident.

It is time! You have been helping your uncle from the shadows for long enough. You have the power to unleash your justice upon those who are poised to do harm unto you. And you are not alone in this anymore. You have allies with the same power as us. It would do you well to join them

Penny's breathing became harder and as she finally opened her eyes, the sign of what was about to happen became clear: her pupils were not blue now but a brilliant yellow, an enraged grimace etched across her usually cheerful face.

"Let's do it...seal the contract!" she whispered.

Wise choice

A blur of blue light briefly flashed across her face and she now bore a cloth mask around her eyes, black in color, resembling that of the type a certain group of terrapin heroes wore into battle.

I am thou...thou art I...wield my power and you will no longer be bound up by your fear. Just say my name and it will be done

"I do not know what is happening but I will put a stop to it!" Shadow Claw bellowed as her raised his scepter.

Several dozen Shadows emerged from thin air and began to make their way towards the group. But it was too late.

Penny grasped the mask on her face with one hand. She pulled---the damn thing was tightly bound to her and the pain was almost unbearable.

But she would endure it.

With a last burst of strength, she ripped it from her body, blood spilling out on the ground before her. Penny’s screams of agony were brief though as through the ordeal, at the top of her lungs, she cried out the name of the inner rebel she had now recalled.

"UMEMURA!!!!!

A violent burst of blue light and flame erupted as the awakening finally occurred, the shockwave sending the oncoming shadows back. A few seconds later the dust finally settled, and the other Phantom Thieves looked on upon their new partner, Oracle happily saying "Now that is an entrance."

Penny stood before them now, dressed in her own Phantom Thief attire. She had on an outfit that was the typical gear of a female kunoichi, with a pair of gauntlets that matched the dark cloth of her gi. A mask covered her mouth and in her hands was a pair of short kodachi blades. Behind her hovered her Persona, Umeura. It looked ethereal in appearance, if one could have a simple description. For a bit more context, Umeura resembled a woman wearing a short kimono, her legs visible up to the knees. It too held a pair of kodachi blades but over where her face would be there was a noh mask resembling a young woman.

"Holy freaking CRAP! Penny's a Persona wielder?" Skull asked, bewildered.

"It would appear so. And at the right moment too" Fox observed.

"Penny, are you ok?" Queen asked. As a pair of shadows leaped to attack, Penny just as quickly reacted; she slashed with precision and the two fell down in pieces before her.

"I'm fine!" Penny replied eagerly, "but we can discuss what the hell's going on later! Right now I just wanna kick this guy's ass!"

"No argument there." Joker agreed.

Wow...that was kind of fun, wasn't it?
