Back to working on these again after a slight art block on their design concepts. I actually had a lot of fun trying to come up with a Prime verse design for these two because there were a few concepts that I wanted to try. For Tarantulas, I had help from both designs from the Beast Wars cartoon and Airachnid. In their first appearance, Tarantulas and Waspinator only have their beast modes, but they later on obtain an additional vehicle mode, Tarantulas as a helicopter and Waspinator as a jet. I like the idea of spider-bots transforming into helicopters instead of whatever vehicle mode Tarantulas had in his Transmetal form because it gives the spider legs a secondary use. And the colors for Tarantulas were fun because of how I combined both pre-Transmetal and Transmetal designs into one, and this time it worked out way better than when I first designed Rhox (I guess some people are special that way). I also added seams on her face to show that the lower jaw has that weird mandible concept that the SynthEn Terrorcons have, as well as having a secondary prehensile tongue, however the face seams will not always be visible. She also has retractable cables like Soundwave that extend from her helm, but don't extend very far and are only useful in close combat. For Waspinator, I used both Beast Wars and Transformers Animated designs and combined them with Prime Starscream. The idea of using Starscream for body design was originally a joke because of a certain Beast Wars episode, the jet vehicle mode in line with the body, but it wasn't until after I looked up Waspinator's profile that I found out that old Waspinator really did have a jet form before the Beast Wars show, so I was a little surprised there. His claws and stinger come in good use while in close combat, and despite his seemingly simple nature, this bug has surprising accuracy when handling a blaster. I'm not normally one for liking wasps, but I really love how Waspinator came out. Now I'm wondering if I should try this with some of the other Beast Wars characters.
