Description
Trying to post more drawings/sketches on instagram, if you're interested:Β instagram.com/saunders_kai/Hi guys, so it's coming towards the end of 2013 and I thought I would try and redo a painting that I did when I first started out with a tablet. To be precise it was my fourth painting ever. At the halfway point of this painting I went and saw the Hobbit and ended up putting a more fantasy based twist to the piece
Happy Holidays

this is pretty stunning yo, and with that, you've got yourself another watcher watching you. (that feels so weird to say that imo)

Love this piece, the use of shapes gives great style, and the depth was well done. It really drew my attention and really captivated me with a sense of mystery and magic. Great use of lighting too.

Like your last piece I looked at (upturned) this has a immediate sense of scale. I actually wonder for a second on first viewing if the tiny shadows of people in this are there for just that - for the viewer to take in just how dammed HUGE this is! And the energy in the center immediately gets .you attention, just like the last. You have a great sense of what makes fantasy work and how to make use of it. Keep it up.

This is amazing! It kind of reminds me of that scene in Disney's Atlantis when Kida and the crystal become one.

I appreciate the time you've taken to look through my artwork, and for the nice comment. But copy and pasting spam chain messages across a number of my pieces really was immature.

Hi Kai, the new one looks great. but dont underestestimate your old painting just because of improved technique.Β I think your old one is more personal and mystical,Β despite the technical shortcomings. I think there are some treasures to be found in the more innocent, less calculated and "unprofessional" compositions :0)

Hey man, thanks I definitely look back with fondness with that picture, it was something I was most proud of when I finished it. Interesting that you find it more mystical, but then everyone has different tastes, so I can see where you coming from
Thanks for taking the time to look at them both!

You are wellcome. I guess my idea of mystical comes from less controlled structure on the painting. Sometimes a professional looking setup can make the story more predictable/easier to read, which removes the mystery a bit...but then on the other hand makes it easier on the eyes.

Ahh, I see what you mean now, I definitely didn't think about it that way, it's always interesting to hear other artists takes on things But I agree, this painting is definitely easier on the eyes haha!
