5/11 edit: She'll now be called Kaya!~~~
Yup, a fox named Coyote.
Her name comes from the fact that ~FlinSwift , who designed her for me, thought she looked a bit like a coyote. It just seemed to fit. <3 I do really love her design though. I usually have a hard time using browns with bright colors, especially orange, but they work really well here. <33

All you have to do is practice and you'll get just as good someday. <33

I am so far behind commenting on your recent deviations. I joined an RP group, and that's been occupying my time lately... though my character isn't even in the RP yet! Don't ask.
Anyways, I love Coyote's design. And her name suites her very well. A little too well-- I used to draw a coyote that looks exactly like her. Good thing that coyote was never used for anything other than practicing coyotes. Love the ears. They remind me of the ear design for one of my jackal characters. Lol, don't get me wrong. I like that her design reminds me of those things. She brings back good memories for me.
Now you need to give her a personality and bio. Even if she is a minor character, it would still be nice to give her some background info.

Don't worry. School's been taking up a majority of my time and I've been so far behind on replying to comments it's probably a good thing you waited. xD I'm just now starting to get my inbox back in line.
xD We always have designs that looks almost identical. I guess it's the whole "good minds think alike" saying coming into play. c: Coyote here might end up getting a name change. :devprin-pradus: and I were working on the main Tribal Wars story and we found a little probably with her name being the same as on of the Guardian Spirits.
She'll eventually get a bio though. Like I said before, school's really gotten in my way in the last month. :/

Lol, I guess so. Or it's just me seeing how my characters would look if I was better at drawing.
At least that coyote of mine was never turned into a character. It was just me practicing coyotes. And the jackals aren't even the same colours. So Coyote's still unique.
School sucks. Hopefully you'll get some time off for Spring Break. Though that doesn't mean you should use that time working on your comic either.
You could give her a Native American name that means dog or coyote... provided that the word 'coyote' itself isn't derived from one tribe's word in the first place.
Here are some ideas:
TOLINKA: Miwok name meaning "flapping ear of a coyote."
KALISKA: Miwok for "coyote chasing deer"
MACAWI: Sioux word meaning "female coyote"
BAYA: Apache for "coyote"
APISI: Blackfoot for "coyote"
KAWOSA: Comanche for "coyote"
WAYA: Cherokee for "coyote"
MIKASI: supposedly means "coyote"
I'm not sure how accurate those words are, but they would work in a fictional story.

Tell me about it. My Spring Break was the first week of March (super early, I know) so I have to go without a break until summer vacation. I just have to outlast the next 2 1/2 weeks and my work load should go down by a lot. Haha, but I could use a break, seriously!
Aww, thanks! That'll help a lot. Baya seems to fit her really well from the names you mentioned, though Waya could work too. I used the Cherokee word for "fox", which is Inali, for Sorin's brother, so maybe I could keep the theme. c:

The marks on my foxes aren't really called anything. They're just markings that show skill and strength. The markings in my story "Keystones" are called that though, but they're just a made up name.

xD Yup, I totally made that up. A irl keystone is actually a piece of rock at the top of a stone archway. No connection to my makings what so ever.

Ooooh, it' a girl. The Runner markings threw me off. Although, looking closer she does lack your lil man-fluff you always put on the head, so I should have guessed. xD
I really like this design, and the green markings are stunning. I love love love the markings on her ears, too, those are really neat. They kinda remind me of lil beetles (sounds weird, I know ).
Nice to see some more girl power. <3

Yup, lack of whiskers + no head tuft = female I keep saying the Runner rank is mostly male but I have as many girls as I do guys there atm. D:
Ffft, that green reminded me of beetles for some strange reason too. xD

I didn't even notice the whiskers bit. /airhead
I was wondering, is there a leader/trainer for the Hunters, like the Beta is for Runners? Or do they pair up Warriors-style? Since Runners have their own ranking system (the markings) do the Hunters have one as well, to show how awesome they are?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KaiserTiger In reply to Prin-Pardus [2011-03-17 20:50:11 +0000 UTC]
The Hunters do have a leader and all their training would be left up to the Beta female. I just haven't worked on that rank as much as the Runners, so I haven't mentioned anything about that yet. xD I didn't plan for them to have any kind of marking system like the Runners have, though it'd be neat for them to have some sort of ranking system too. c: Any suggestions?

Prin-Pardus In reply to KaiserTiger [2011-03-17 21:48:53 +0000 UTC]
Oooh, Beta female. Does Enapaw have a mommy? <3
Hmm. Well, Runners are all about fighting each other, and the face is kind of central to that, so it makes sense to have markings on their face. For Hunters, the stalking and the actual catching is the most important part of their duty, so if they do have some sort of marking, it would be on their paws or legs. Unlike Runners, they have to be stealthy and quiet, so the markings would have to be camo-ish colors, dark greens and browns.
Because they're so stealth-involved, though, markings really wouldn't make as much sense; for the Runners, they're a matter of pride, but they also help to influence the enemy, intimidating them with their own power. Hunters have no need for that. So, you're right, markings don't really make sense for them...unless they only wore them when they were meeting members of another tribe.
Maybe some sort of trophy, something they collect from impressive kills? Perhaps Hunters are ranked by the number of kills they make, or the difficulty of them. Perhaps they keep some small part of everything they catch...or if that would build up too quickly, then they keep something from important kills, like...I dunno, badgers or something.
Oooh, what about feathers, sort of like the Shamen (shamans? xD). They could wear feathers somewhere, maybe like behind their ears or something. They could have a max of three behind each; feathers wouldn't spook their prey, and might even help them hunt if their prey hears them but just sees the feathers moving and just think that it's a bird.
Sorry if this isn't making sense, I'm a lil rambly when I'm thinking. xD

KaiserTiger In reply to Prin-Pardus [2011-03-18 01:59:12 +0000 UTC]
He does! A pretty golden Vixen named Mika is Enapaw's momma, though she needs a ref.
That's what I was thinking too. Runner markings act sorta like Native American war paint, used to intimidate the enemy and show pride and skill. Like you said, Hunters would care more stealth and what they've managed to provide for the tribe over strength. I like the idea of them collecting "hunting trophies" from their best kills, like maybe the tail feather of a hawk or a badger claw.
I really like the idea of using feathers the best though. <3 They'd make it super easy to tell rank. Hunters could wear like up to 5 feathers on/near their head and they'd show that fox's skill level. They could gain a feather by doing something brave, being a consistent provider, etc. You're average Hunter would have around 3 and the 4th and 5th feathers would be harder to gain so those with all 5 would be really well respected. New hunter kits would obviously start off with no feathers and gain their first by finishing some kind of introductory training or something.
xD You got me thinking too much now! *wants to go draw feathers*

Yay! I can't wait to see how Coyote turns out, too. Her design is super cool. <3
I was thinking something from badgers, but for some reason I was thinking the entire paw, but that's just gross. xD
Yes, that sounds good. Perhaps they have certain challenges to complete to earn their feathers? Like assessments to become a warrior, that sort of thing? And by passing each assessment, they earn the next rank?
I'm sorry! If I could draw, I would, but this sort of thing just makes me wanna go write.

That's what I was thinking too. Getting the third feather would be like becoming a full hunter and they'd have to do something special to get the last two. xD I'll be sending you a note, like, within the next day or so. I've got stuffs about the main story I wanna talk about and it needs to be keep a secret. ¬_¬
