Description

Wow this gave me way more trouble and took waaay longer than it should have. Here is my entry for marcoide7 's 200 watcher contest. I am not sure if you would count this as a scene but I already took so long, I don´t think I have the time to do a proper background, RIP.

Anyways, I will explain the scene a bit: I tried to capture the moment in book 8 where Peril takes off the amulet that enchanted her to obey Scarlet and at the same time made her a "normal" dragon witout the firescales. A bit later she refused to have changed version of the spell that would just take away her firescales. For me that was a really strong point of character development for Peril, where she starts to accept herself the way she is, with all her flaws. I am sure we all have something about us that we would love to change but I think that it´s not only our perks but also our flaws that make us who we are and thus it is important for us to accept them. ^^

I am trying to work without outlines, which is new to me ( I am not entirely happy with it so far but we´ll see where I can go) and I kinda screwed up my workflow (for example I realized way too late that I can´t simply select parts of the dragon to change colour and stuff like I can with lineart. This meant I spent like 1h to redo the main scale colour at some point. The shading was hard to do without the selection aswell. I already have an idea of how to set it up better next time). I learned a lot from this for sure. Also I experimented with a variety of new brushes and found some of them that are really interesting.

Overall I am happy with how it turned out, although I belive I somewhat messed up the colour-scheme.:/
