As a fan of both. I like Getter better.
As far as I have read from a various manga, Z is describe to have the potential to become a god or the devil because it is powerful. And Getter rays evolve at an alarming rate.
Both have also been in various 'Super Robot Taisen' games and have proven their worth.
If anything I would have to say that Mazinger Z has a knack for drinking energy supplies like water (photn-beam, rust hurricane and breat fire.) and ends up needing photon-energy. While Getter has weak defence, it can last longer battles and dish out more damage.

I liked Getter Robo's enemies better..The Dinosaur empire..the comics Ishikawa and Nagai did for Getter Robo were quite violent and gory!
