[EDIT] - THE WINNER!!

It was a female, silhouetted in the candlelight, her lights very dim as she bent studiously over the pool. There was something odd about her that Rulon could not quite place, an detached air quite unlike most podcats, and he stiffened in suspicion.

"Do not be afraid," the stranger said quietly, and her voice seemed to echo like raindrops.

"Who are you?" asked the youngster, bravado lending strength to the query. He stepped forward, squinting at her coat. Was it merely a trick of the candelight that made the black fur seem to ripple and move?

"Do you not know me, little Rulon?" She looked over her shoulder then, and Rulon experienced a moment of total confusion - her eyes were blue. He stared, sinking to the stones as his legs turned to water beneath him; as she looked, the female's lights brightened, bathing him in a blue glow. "Yes," he whispered, unable to look away. "Yes, Lady, I know you."

Okay, I don't know the first thing about podcat culture (for instance, if they even have shrines), but it was the above scene that popped into my head when I sat down to sketch this picture and I figured I'd run with it. Rulon is one of my little podcats and I loved the idea of him not recognizing the creator at first - that idea was cemented when I re-read Holly's description and caught the bit about how her lights can be blinding-bright or very dim. So I wanted her to be almost right, almost recognizable. I'm reasonably pleased with the result.

This was an unfortunately difficult perspective from which to draw the fin and lights, but when I had sketched the shape of the body I liked it so much that I couldn't bring myself to make it easier. Podcats are beautiful and really cool, but dang if that fin doesn't give me fits.

ANYWAY, this is my entry for Holly's contest . She has really great contests and I'm proud to be able to enter this one. Best of luck to everyone cool enough to participate!
