Description
This is my entry for the Fantasy Creatures Contest over at ArtisticAnimals .
Their focus is on naturalistic animals, but recently they changed their rules to accept fantasy and hybrid creatures which are clearly based on a real animals.
So I figured this was a perfect opportunity to pick up the idea from an old doodle of mine and turn it into a proper painting.

Said doodle was a barn owl with a fish tail - I used to draw a lot of owls during the time I worked for our school newspaper, and I love fish in all forms.
For this painting, I settled on a rainbow trout for the fish part, because I've always liked their coloration and the dark spots fit nicely with those on the owl's plumage.

The painting was done in GIMP, and I used various photos on the internet for reference.
