I think I got that effect by playing with the Color Mixer and Hue/Saturation

Indeed, this is an interesting shot....the darkness beyond into the unknown space...
as you know, our eyes will certainly adjust to darkness which enables our vision
to go through the darkness. I must say, you have managed to take some interesting
pictures this year

Slippers?!
I really like how there's an air of mystery about this piece, from the way it's so dark so fast, like. It's pretty interesting how the rail road is in the colour of scorching fire, as if it was a pathway to hell or something. o.O
The framing isn't bad, although it would have been better if it was a proper square, like... there's probably a good reason you've cropped it as such, though, right?
I find the way you've brought out the colours of the bricks is quite awesome, too.

yeah slippers - a foolish mistake I often make
I had a feeling you were going to say that about the square when I was cropping it...I could have made it square but just to bother you, I left those 50 extra pixels 
Its actually cropped to match the edges of the railroad with the "Union Dam" sign somewhat centered - gives it depth I think

interesting insights - I wasn't farsighted enough to think of the different visual metaphors the pic might imply
But perhaps the darkness we see in the world is only the darkness with in us being reflected back...like you say "an invitation to whatever lies with in" as the curiosity pulls us forward.
