A Request from Kamikage86 to LordArcheronVolistad and I wanted an AHE ship on the scale of the Mantle's approach. Given the geometric and rigidly-solid shape of the Approach, I wanted to emulate that image of solidity and sturdiness, while still making the ship still have an Ancient Human aesthetic. To do this, I figured that the ship would have lots of layers and be heavily built without being proportionately long and thin. To do this, I opted to have it have a vaguely-Star Trek-ish profile, since the roundness helps with the image of solidity.
Anyway, to make use of the size of the warship, I had it be a fortified supercarrier, that instead of launching fighters, bombers and landers, it would launch frigates, cruisers, destroyers, and capital ships. The grooves on the back half of the ship are docking points for the escort fleet it can carry. On another note, the circular bits with a sort of cordon around them similar to the systems of a Forerunner Guardian construct are multirole devices, acting as shield buffers, cloak generators, gravitic weapons and nullifiers, Slipspace Inderdiction generators, and more. The ones on the front (top) half of the ship situated on the secondary Hyperaccelerator System are for power redistribution, acceleration optimization and force stabilization, since the firing of the main cannons produces so much feedback or recoil that the Shup needs to have dedicated stabilization drives for it.
Near the back of the ship is the location of a detachable Sacondary ship, called the Scylla class heavy dreadnought. This ship can detach and act independently of the main vessel, and when it separates, some of the 6 circular devices near it will begin to form a hardlight and smartmatter section to cover and armor the hole left in the Scylla's place. The 6 devices are also capable in blanketing the entire ship in a type of superdimensional armor that, based on Precursor technology, can make the ship nigh-impervious to anything save for the full-power pulse of a Halo installation. This mode is taxing on the ship, though, and it will take a considerable amount of time for the generators to be able to gain enough concentration of neural physical energies to make another shell. The shell is also useful in ramming through enemy planetoids or fortresses of a similar scale, as the Forerunners had moon-sized battlestations referred to as the Castellan class (Warfleet pg. 86). This technology was only in the prototype phase during the Siege of Charum Hakkor, and as such could not be used by the single ship of this class existing at the time. Over the millennia, however, the AHE Remnants would be able to perfect the technology, but they are reluctant to use it unless circumstances are dire, since they have met no threat that would warrant such a feature after their departure from the galaxy. It is known that the Sagittarius Remnant has 1 online Inheritance as well as both of the Magellanic Cloud Remnants and the Canis Major Remnant. There are theorized to be more Inheritance class ships in operation in the extragalactic rings and other Satellite galaxies, but these have not been documented. The vessels are sparse because the AHE as a whole prefer not to pool massive amounts of resources into single projects and constructs of immense power and vanity. They much prefer to have a larger and more flexible, more manageable fleet of ships to cover more area and that can be repaired and replaced more efficiently with minimal resource losses. However, the AHE felt the need to build ships that at least can serve as a counter to the Forerunners massive numerical and industrial superiority, and seemingly infinite resources.
Due to the sheer amount of resources pooled to make such a vessel, and the distance at which the core worlds of the different AHE Remnant factions are, each ship made from this class is somewhat unique, due to the varied upgrades and modifications that the different factions would devise before re-establishing communications and trade.
It's a very bulky and complex vessel, with most of the ship being built around a hyper-accelerator cannon that will fire ultradense masses at lightspeed for absolute obliteration. It can fire a plethora of shell sizes, depending on if you want to destroy a space station, solar system, or anything in between that would actually warrant the presence of the ship. These shells are usually at least hundreds of meters in length, and can be spread out in a sort of cluster fire mode to wipe out numerous systems incase the Flood burn is that bad or if the Forerunners sent that many forces. Note that thic causes additional stress for the ship and each cannon must cool down enough to be stabilized before firing another mass or volley. This technology was developed after first seeing the Mantle's Approach, and determining that it had a cannon repurposed from a planet-cracker ion system based off of previous scouting data. While the Approach needed to essentially relocate its entire hull after each shot, the AHE decided to instead build massive stabilization systems into the superstructure of their own ship to negate this problem and have a higher rate-of-fire at the cost of some interior space and structure.
One of the proposed purposes of this ship was to make a vessel that can successfully survive the ludicrous defenses of Maethrillian itself by essentially plowing through anything in its way, unloading a fleet, and firing lightspeed-accelerated rounds to destroy or at least cripple parts of the leviathan construct. It would also employ the most powerful and vicious form of active atomic dissolution array technology, (hopefully) setting a chain reaction that will cause the target to crumble unto dust.... eventually. However, as anyone who has read the history of the Human-Forerunner war would know, Humanity never made it anywhere close to the Orion sphere of the Forerunners. In the case of the HDS (Hominid Dominion Ship) Inheritance, this was due to the ship being recalled to Charum Hakkor for the final battle of the war.

I really like the very "stout" appearance of this vessel. Very advanced civilization-tech often appears almost fragile (like the Eldar in 40k for example) - but this retains the very sturdy, militaristic style while at the same time adding all the finesse and detailing to it. Lovely!
