Description
This is a test render of a sphere (I know, Rendering 102 said no more spheres) in an HDRI environment, that is the surrounding image is of an actual location, but the sphere and the paper it is on are not. Modeled and rendered in Maya. Thanks to "Blochi" for this image. [link]

First off, spheres are great for experimenting... I use them all the time.
Second, that is very well executed! The paper's perspective matches the table perfectally...
Very well done!
For a finishing touch (and this is not a criticsm) I would perform a blur/softening of the sphere and paper to match the low pixalation in the rest of the picture.
What HDRI image did you use? The window reflection on the sphere is bang on the mark...

Thanks for the kind words, but I took many easy paths.
Matching the paper's perspective was not that hard -- or not as hard as I thought. I just placed it where I thought it should be, did a test render, had to move it a little lower on Z, and voila, it worked. The Interactive Photorealistic Renderer (IPR) with the Maya software renderer aided immensely in the placement.
Yes, I agree that I still need to work on matching the sharpness (or lack thereof).
The image is from Blochi's HDRI Challenge. It is either[link] or [link]
Thanks again.

As far as I'm concerned, the end result is the image you create... how you got there is unimportant if the image is well received. Even HDRI's could be considered "an easy path" to purists. I don't.
Good Job... just go blur it up a bit.
