Part 4

You walking into your house a bit late today, traffic was a mess and the meeting lasted a bit longer than usual. You didn’t think anything of it, he was probably busy with some other girl. Sighing you walk up the stairs to your room.

“Where the hell have you been?” A booming voice assaulted your eardrums once you reached the top of the stairs. “I’m just a little late. That’s all.” “A little?! Bitch you were supposed to make me dinner a half an hour ago!”

You flinched slightly at how loud his voice was getting. “I’m sorry I ran into traffic and the meeting ran late…” “I don’t want to hear your fucking excuses!” He pushed back on your shoulders harshly. You lost your balance. You fall backwards down the stairs, tumbling harshly. Bones cracking and breaking as you went. When you reached the bottom finally, your head smacked the hardwood floor and you fell unconscious.

You were rushed to the hospital. Derek went with you and told everyone you only slipped, lying bastard. And everyone believed him. He knew you were too scared of him to say otherwise.

Romano arrived a short time later by request of your doctor. “Are you Lovino Vargas?” “Si, what happened to (Y/N)? Is she alright?” He said concerned. “That’s why I’ve called you here. I couldn’t get a hold of any family...” Rather than try to explain to the doctor that she was a country he simply said, “They don’t live around here.”

He followed the doctor down the hall to your room. You were awake earlier, but the pain medicine they gave you made you drowsy. Now you were out like a light, sleeping quietly. “Mr. Vargas, your friend here allegedly fell down the stairs. Now that’s at least what her boyfriend says…” His jaw tightened. ‘Lying bastard.’

“I think otherwise though. The doctor took an x-ray film out of a folder sitting on the counter and held it up to the light. “She has rib fractures on the back side of her rib cage.” He pointed out tiny cracks in the bones, two or three of them. “She had to have slipped backwards down the stairs which I find very unlikely. Or she was pushed. By the number of fractures, she fell pretty hard. She’s lucky she didn’t break her neck.”

Romano was fuming. Anger started to bubble inside him. “Now, I also found some other hidden fractures that weren’t fully healed yet.” On her full x-ray there were at least a dozen.” “Did Ms. (L/N) ever tell anyone about these? I can’t even find a medical report for them.”

Derek went home assuming you weren’t going to be released until tomorrow when really you were cleared the same day.

Romano stayed with you. Just after you were dressed to go home he came into your room. “Oh hi Lovi! I didn’t know you were here.” You slapped on a smile. “Yeah I heard you fell…” “I know, I’m such a klutz.”

You slipped on a jacket over you’re tank top. “Are you sure you slipped?” You look up at him like he has ten heads. “What do you mean? I wasn’t pushed.”

Without a change of expression he said firmly, “The x-rays say otherwise.” You didn’t answer him right away. No, he didn’t find out. He couldn’t have, could he? “(Y/N), I know what Derek’s been doing to you.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” You played stupid. “I know he’s been hurting you.”
He said. “That’s ridiculous! Derek loves me! He would never hurt me!”

“Oh really?”

“Yes really!”

He tugged on your jacket so it fell off your shoulders, exposing the burn on your shoulder. “Then how did this get here?” You swallowed hard. Your eyes started to water. “You don’t smoke.” You could deny all you wanted but the broken bones, burns and bruises don’t lie.

“Why do you put up with it? You deserve better than this…” He said. “Sometimes it’s easier to pretend it doesn’t happen…” You sigh, giving in. “You shouldn’t let him do this to you (Y/N). He’s not just hurting you anymore, he almost got you killed!” He stressed, voice rising slightly.

“Lovi…” You didn’t know what to say anymore, tears streaming down your face. His heart ached for you; he hated seeing you like this. At the same time he was pissed at Derek for doing this to you.

“Please, don’t go back to him. Stay with me for the time being. Just don’t go back there to him.” He said. “O-Okay…” Your voice shook slightly. “Come on (Y/N). I hate seeing you this upset…”

His arm’s slid around your waist pulling you into a hug, very mindful of where he put his hands on you. You flinched slightly. A developed reaction from being hit so often. It was strange, being hugged in a way of ‘I love you’, not ‘sorry for hitting you.’
