Description Cameron has said: "[...] maybe in the enjoying of [Avatar] it makes you think a little bit about the way you interact with nature and your fellow man."

I'm a big fan of the movie, and it's obvious that plenty here on dA have been inspired by it as well. What I don't like, however, are people who claim that they were really moved by the movie yet do nothing to change the outcome of this future here on our own world. As we're going into the new school season, we're entering one of the most wasteful seasons of the year and where a lot can be prevented. So... while I'm pushing buttons... figure I'll hit a few more:

Buy re-cycled paper for writing (even sketch books depending on the art). If even half the paper of the world was recycled, more than 20-million acres of forest and jungle would be saved annually. Recycling also saves energy, landfill space and eliminates the water pollution created from harvesting and processing trees.

Those who praised the spiritual method of hunting animals better be eating wild-caught animals or practicing vegetarianism. If every American skipped one meal of chicken each week, the CO2 savings would be the same as taking half a million cars off U.S. roads, let alone the abusive lives that major corp animals are raised inside of before being harvested for their meat.

Anyone who talks down on the greed that drove the corp to destroy Hometree and hunt down the Na'vi in search of unobtanium better not be driving an SUV (or driving a truck that they don't use for hauling or driving off-road). In fact, these same peeps don't have ground to stand on to complain about BP either. They're creating the demand that someone (no matter who they are) will step in to supply.

If someone else is buying supplies for you, that is no excuse not to at least mention that you'd prefer recycled materials. Even if you don't get what you want, you still acted. In-action equates to acting, but is practiced by many more people than those who act.

Anyone who won't switch to an eReader because they "love the feel of books" may as well be holding the axe themselves. This goes for other similar hypocrites, such as Rush singing about saving the trees while playing wooden guitars [note: if they inspired more people to change how they impact the world than they inspired people to play those same wooden guitars, then they've actually done more good than bad].

Anyone who won't change how they themselves act, but votes or supports regulation against corporations, has actually done MORE damage to the world. Removing the supplier without altering those who are "the demand" just moves the supplies to the black market. The black market is cheaper, less regulated and almost always more destructive to the planet. It also regularly practices slavery and other forms of exploitation. Demand has to be changed. Shifting responsibility to the Supply side only does more damage.

If you're in high school, you could have a HUGE affect AND bolster your pre-college resume. Seriously, you wouldn't believe the success stories in this area. Imagine converting your entire school to staple-free staplers [link] or bringing solar energy to your school. Read "From CEOs to Opera Singers" (Cal Newport and Tim Ferris) [link] for an actual success story along these lines.

Money is power. Every purchase you make is a vote. You're either voting for a better world or you're voting for its destruction. Nobody's perfect. Trust me, I've cut my fair share of paper off of Hometree. I'm a demon when it comes to what I've done (and am doing) to this planet, but you wouldn't believe what I give back and the amount of people I affect. Buying without thinking is a sure course to destruction.

At the end of the day, a conscious consumer is someone who gives back more than they take.
If you turn someone else into a conscious consumer, you magnify your power exponentially.
Demand a better world.

But what do I know?
I'm just some hitchhiker.

Thoughts:

No, the paper wouldn't actually be blue. The film clearly showed that the wood was brown as it is on earth.

No, it wouldn't glow in the dark. Even if it had trace amounts of Na'vi blood, we saw that they stopped glowing when they died.

There are no punch holes because the theory is that, by 2154, there would be no writing taught. It would all be typing or simply speaking. The only writing that would be taught would be as an art class (e.g., "calligraphy").

The weight shown is 21-grams per square-meter. Actual paper weights currently come in at around 90 grams. The weight shown is commentary that some will get and some won't.

I give a solid B+ to "Avatar". Any movie where I can tell the entire story within the first ten-minutes loses heavy marks with me. The soundtrack was underwhelming and there were a lot of places where thought was sacrificed for effect (e.g., the Na'vi had a campfire, which was pretty but didn't fit their luminescent world nor their general reaction to fire... nor the fact that it was burning in the center of Hometree).

I'm submitting this under "Digital Art / Text Art / Misc. Text", because the art is the message and each font and their design has carefully been chosen. Everything (what spoken languages are represented, the method of measuring the paper, its weight, its composition, etc.) is commentary on the present in regards to the future shown in "Avatar". The bar code and paper itself are all merely a backdrop to these messages. I'm not in to spoon feeding, so you'll have to figure out each meaning (often multiple meanings) on your own. If someone has a better category and a good argument for moving it to that category, let me know in the comments.

Have something to add to the list in the main description above? Leave it in the comments. I'll offer no guarantee that I'll add it, but I'm open to the possibility.

Nothing here was endorsed nor approved by Jim Cameron, the studio, nor anyone else involved in the making of "Avatar".

Of course, I knew about all this long before the film was made, and if you really want to have some fun...

- So you're a hardcore gamer because you play something like Halo for your LUNCHBOX 360 or some other high-def game for your PSTriple as opposed to "them kiddie games for the Wii?" Well I hope you're really rich or else got a back up generator, because the 360 and PS3 eat up 6 to 8 times the amount of power as opposed to the Wii... Yeah, Mario's more a environmentally concerned fellow than you'd think (and Samus isn't even a Na'vi folks! Krystal might be related though), let alone, Nintendo's got a lot games that you can choose from as well as the virtual console so you can still play the games of the supposed "good old days" without having those old consoles eating up your wallet.

Some areas and a few countries are already moving to rolling blackouts with the energy crisis. You'd definitely save on generator gas with a low energy system like a Wii. Good call.

Yeah (of course, I kind of came out a little more snarkier than I wanted to be).

I like it. It's not the typical Avatar art. Thank you for coming up with something that involves the message of the movie rather than just the pretty special effects
