Description
This is the 6989-1 Mega Core Magnetizer of the Lego's successful Space series. It was the largest set in the M-Tron sub-theme, and incorporated several revolutionary magnet pieces, that made the M-Tron theme famous.
For me, this was a b**** to build. The color saturation, coupled with the fact that I had to create over 20 separate sub-models for this particular project, was enough to drive me crazy. I must admit that I kind of gave up towards the end, as I did not build the other three vehicles and the tool crate, that this set included, as I had planned. In all, this project took me about 16 hours to build, from start to finish.
For more images of the 6989-1 Mega Core Magnetizer, as well as the MLCAD file containing the block set, follow this link: www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/galβ¦
Constructed in MLCAD / Rendered in LDView.

Mega Core Magnetizer was the top of my "Wanted but never got" list as a kid. Nevertheless, I can see where it would take longer to build with digital blocks than it would with real bricks.

Awesome! That's the one of which I was thinking. Still have all the bits in my parents attic, too.
Next request, a simple one - the Space Police (1) 6886 Galactic Peace Keeper. The only set I got that actually survived more than a few weeks before being broken down & used to make other stuff (in fact, I think it's still intact to this day in the aforementioned attic). Please make it, it would bring back so many nice memories...

I wish I could saw the same thing about all my old sets. I lost -all- due to a number of moves my parents dragged me through growing up.
And I'll consider your request. I just now put out a call to my watchers, asking them what sets they would like to see rendered in 3D. I'll see to it that your suggestion makes it on the list.

If you plan on hunting down the set, and have a bit of money to put towards it, then I would point you towards www.bricklink.com. There are several sets for sale, ranging between $90 USD and $135 USD.
