Description
Piko 5/6315 - Steam locomotive Type 81 no. 81.340 (modified)With its tender well filled up with coal and wood bricks, 81.340 is ready for a new day's work...
... I still need to scratch-build a new oil lantern (or two), but most of the modification work on this one has been done now.
Quite a bit of work that's gone into this one so far. >.>

Fleischmann did quite a number of variants of the T8.1 - including an all-black blank one that came with decals for the Belgian SNCB, the French SNCF, the Dutch NS, and the German DB...

Lovely work! I still need to buy one (working) steam locomotive for me. I only have a static one from Revell...
P.S. I am still trying, after all these years, to figure out why they all insist on using black coloured plastic instead of brownish to represent the wooden beams beneath the tracks.

Thank you!!
I've meanwhile changed the oil lanterns to the right type, so she's more or less ready... and now the only thing left is to find a second one! XD

I'm actually beginning to get quite a little collection.
Right now, I have Β locomotives, including:
- 5 steam engines (all Belgian ones of German origins)
- 4 diesel engines (one Dutch shunter and three Belgian mainline diesels)
- 2 electric locomotives (both Belgian ones, one based on a French model, and one pure Belgian)
- and 1 electric multiple unit (a Dutch one)

It is the Type 29 locomotive of the Belgian Railways, of which the originals were built by the Montreal Locomotive Works, the Canadian Locomotive Company, and the American Locomotive Company between 1945 and 1947. Β Unfortunately it is a locomotive specifically built for the Belgian Railways, with no counterpart elsewhere in the world.
traintamarre.tassignon.be/inve⦠29
It used to be built by Jocadis, unfortunately that marque folded after the man behind it died two years ago. Β DJH also used to build the model, but that hasn't been available for years now - and DJH locomotives usually came in kit form only.
The only model that does come close in terms of overal shape and size is the USATC S160 (or SNCF 140U) which is newly announced by Roco, unfortunately that costs almost as much as the model of the Type 29 does!

Ah - my 'park' is beginning to become quite extensive.
Most of my freight cars are Belgian; the only exception are two Swedish freight cars, two German freight cars, one German tanker car, and one Dutch coal wagon.
Of my passenger cars, all are Belgian ones so far, though of mixed origins. Β They include several different types, such as cars of Prussian and Bavarian origins that were taken over by the Belgians after World War I (and in some rare cases, ones left behind by the Germans during World War II)
But I also have "real" Belgian cars in my collection, such as the L and M1 cars of 1935; and the M2 cars of 1958.
Β
Also: Good luck!

Currently I haven't have one - I'm still planning on one, but haven't had the time to build it yet. Β Ever so now and then I take the usual oval out of the box and run some of my trains, but that's it so far...

Well, it's a beginning. Here, you order each piece of track.Maybe you should start planning it on a drawing software/a layout software.

Thank you! ^_^
I happened to notice something funny on this one, by the way - for some reason or another, her the opposite of my other locomotives - so if I put her on a closed circuit, she runs in the opposite way to any of my other locomotives.
A bit funny, but I've got a good mind to build a little lay-out with parallel tracks now. :3

I'm actually planning on keeping her this way, it kinda sets her out from the other engines I have right now - and it's always fun to see traffic going both ways on a set-up. :3

It's little things like that which the manufacturers don't put on, but make the model look more real.
π: 0 β©: 1
Rockyrailroad578 In reply to kanyiko [2015-09-24 03:09:14 +0000 UTC]
I'm actually glad the manufacturers don't do it, since it's not really 'part of' the loco, and it makes it more realistic having it slightly different per loco.

True! Β Next time I get myself one of these Piko 81, I'm going to outfit it a bit differently - I'm even thinking about retro-fitting one back to her Second World War configuration if I manage to get my hands on a third one...

Should be interesting!

kanyiko In reply to Rockyrailroad578 [2015-09-24 19:07:13 +0000 UTC]
It should be indeed! - Knorr pre-heater albeit on the opposite side of that on the Piko kit; singular oil lamp with black-out cover; the old four-numbered system; number plaque instead of painted-on numbers on the side; painted frames on the sides of the tender and cab; depot markings on the chimney; and a good number of other changes...
But as I said, I'll probably first do a second "Era III" 81 before I work on an "Era II" one...
