Description
... super-detailling gone overboard. The pilot of a Noorduyn Norseman light cargo aircraft checks his aerial maps prior to take-off.
... this is 1/72 scale, by the way.Β Both the map and the ring binder are scratch-built. >.>
Sadly though, this is not going to be one of my 'masterworks', as the kit seems to be sabotaging my every attempt in getting it together... T_T

AMAZING. But to be honest, I donΒ΄t see the point of so much detailing on interiors of models which, once done, will not let see anything inside, not even through the windows Β
And talking on improving interiors, thatΒ΄s what IΒ΄m doing too with my current kit, ItaleriΒ΄s 1/72nd SA.532 Cougar helicopter (beautiful machine by the way). The cargo area came empty, so after browsing some info in the internet on the interior of this helicopter, I scrath-built some seats out of Evergreen plastic cards and bars which so far are looking fine. Now itΒ΄s time to put them together and inside the fuselage... (letΒ΄s get fingers crossed).
Another personal improvement is found outside: I scratch-built some rails to the sides of the fuselage to let the side sliding doors move back and forth (rather than just glueing them) and so far everything has gone fine in the first tests Β Β LetΒ΄s see if it keeps on working fine once the model is painted up.

Oh I have had kits like that! But you're doing fine!

This really is turning out to be a 'desperate measures' kit.Β I'm THIS close [_] to using a massive hammer on it... >.<

It's really turning into a disaster on a large scale.
The kit itself is an ex-Matchbox Noorduyn Norseman.Β I built an original kit some twenty years ago, and even with my limited skills back then it turned into a reasonably good kit.Β So I didn't expect any problems.
Fast forward early 2010s, and Revell re-releases the kit, as they have bought up the entire Matchbox modelling back catalogue.Β I purchase one.
First observation on opening and prepping the kit: there's a slight mis-allignment between the mould halves for one of the sprues, which means the landing gear parts are more difficult to glue.Β Even so, it shouldn't be a problem.
I start assembling the kit.Β A dry fit of the cockpit parts doesn't reveal any significant issues, so I start assembling it for 'real'.
First issue: the dashboard won't fit inside the fuselage. x_x
Second issue: once the interior is mounted, the two fuselage halves won't fit.Β I end up having to remove interior pegs designed to keep the interior walls in place, but which somehow end up misalligned, instead causing a gap between the fuselage halves.
Third issue: as soon as that is solved, the special window glue intended to keep the windows in place loosens. I end up having to glue the windows in place, again, but this time with an already assembled fuselage.
As soon as the fuselage is assembled, I start painting the plane silver.Β I then mask it for the other colours, and as soon as I've started removing the first masking... the entire silver layer loosens down to the bare plastic.Β I end up having to strip the entire plane, and repaint it in matt aluminium.
With the matt aluminium in place, I again start masking... only to find the masking tape won't adhere on the matt aluminium.Β After a lot of tests and applying pressure, it does eventually hold... only for the paint to bleed underneath the tape while painting on the other colours.
And that's where I currently am. This one is slowly turning into a modeller's nightmare, I tell you... x_x

Oh dear that does all sound a bit dire. I don't recall the original Matchbox kits being too bad. I built their HMS Duke of York as the Howe and also HMS Tiger. This sounds as if Revell have altered your kit in some way but I can't think how. I never built any Matchbox aircraft as far as I remember.

It's something that's really left me puzzled.Β I know the kit itself is one of the 'second gen' Matchbox kits - which generally were less easy to build than the first generation - but even then some of the issues I've encountered so far have left me... massively frustrated to the point I'm near crying and giving up. :c

Well not worth crying over I guess. I had to give up on an Invincible class although I may go back to it sometime......

Hmmm... I could do that, but then again, it might threaten to end up in the 'destined never to get finished, or at least not within this and a decade' row. >.>

Could be worse.Β I recall that none of my pilots could see where they were flying as the cockpit was always fogged up by the poly cement...Β >_>

... *sigh*
I haven't had that in years, and all of a sudden, this model threw that issue up as well on two of the side windows. T_T
I think it hates me. :-[
