Oh my gosh, the colouring and the detail--I love everything about this! You make digital painting look so flawless. I struggle with it so much and have to ask--do you start with a BW base and then layer on the colours, or colour straight away by eye? I've tried both over the last few years but haven't been able to find comfort in either; colours tend to look too saturated and yet somehow still dark if I try layering colours over black and white.

Thank you very much for the kind words!
I have never really gotten the hang of colouring a B&W base, to be honest. When I do, it gives the picture a more washed out look with subtle colours. So yeah, this one was painted with colours straight away, by eye. Most of my paintings are, as I feel it makes the colours way richer than my attempts at colouring a B&W one. In this particular piece, I used a photo as colour palette that I simply colour picked all the colours from. I find it's a good way to keep a strong and consistent palette.

I find the same thing, but I'm always being told by my peers in the industry that it's better/easier to start BW and add colours later, and that if I play with layers and layer styles enough eventually I'll get those vibrant colours I'm looking for.
Anyway, fantastic art! And thank you for sharing a bit of your process!
