Description
Inspired by the Gas Mask resembling a Trubbish from the Pokémon Gaia ROM hack, I decided to try my hand at drawing protective masks based on Pokémon. The final versions have two inlet valves/inhalation ports (the side filters), one outlet valve/exhalation port (the front filter), a voice emitter (the small dotted circle placed either above or below the front filter), and a hydration port (the thing that looks like a curved straw beside the front filter). I didn’t realize until after I had finished most of the drawings that maybe that’s not where the hydration port goes, but since these are drawings based on fictional creatures and were made just for fun, it could be shrugged off with, “Well, maybe that’s what hydration ports look like in the world this is set in!”
This part has some Gen I Pokémon and some variants, Gen II Pokémon and some variants, and Gen III Pokémon. I gave the Gligar mask a slightly different design from the others (making it neither a fully enclosed mask nor a half-mask) because it just felt right (I did the same with Mimikyu in part 5). Originally the Stantler mask was going to have full antlers, but I rejected that because it didn’t seem practical and there was also lack of space. Bucks/stags/harts in the real world often shed their antlers in winter, so I decided that having the Stanler look like it had shed its antlers for the winter would be a good compromise. I included Hisuian Sneasel because of its association with poisons and Vigoroth because of its Vital Spirit ability (which prevents falling asleep, symbolizing how the mask would protect against sleeping gas).
