I recently reread the legends of the dragonlance and had to paint him... ^___^Done with Photoshop 7 and a WACOM tablet.

Out of curiosity, how did you make the brush get that almost glow-like, clear-ish texture?

what texture do you mean? i simply painted it, using a bit the dodge & burn tool, but it's a few years ago i painted that picture, so i don't remember everything.

Well, when I get the brush tool in Photoshop and start painting, it's just the plain, flat preset texture, almost like MS Paint. But the way the brush looks here has an almost illuminated look to it. It has lots of depth. Is that all really just the Burn and Dodge tool? o.O 'Cuz that'd be amazing...

i don't remember how i painted that picture, because its that old, i'm sorry... 
you have to use dodge and burn just very little, then it makes nice effects.
i also like to play with layer modes ('screen' makes nice shine effects, when you paint with light colors on a layer over the painting).
if you simply paint with different lighter or darker tones of a color or differently saturated tones of a color, then you'll get such effects too, just try it out!
