I'm sure you're all happy to see yet another picture of my Billy-boy...
I like this picture of him. It's special in so many ways. I took this the day we moved. It was pretty early and Billy was enjoying the mattress left in my empty bedroom. I couldn't resist and took a quick shot before I left to get everything ready for the moving truck.
This was right before a lot of life changes. Well, I'm happy now. Billy doesn't look so bad either.

Haha, fact is, he always seems happy. Sometimes you just have to enter the room to hear him purring. Even when he was sick he was being pleasant about it. But yes, no more medication really is a relief. ^_^
Thanks!

Animals are so brave when it comes to illness, injury or disability. They are an inspiration to those of poor health themselves.

Yes... It seems to happen more and more. Well, I will never feed him dry food again, that's for sure. x) I'm glad he got better.

Diabetes is such a pain. It wasn't always easy to take care of Billy when we lived alone. I always had to be around. He was great about it, though. He knew the ear pokes and the insulin shots were helping him to feel better, I guess.
I was lucky to find an amazing message board on feline diabetes. Billy would never have gone 'off the juice' without the great people that helped us there.
I hope Loki still enjoyed a full life. I saw his picture on your gallery, he kind of looked like a long-haired Billy!

Well, Loki was a sweet girl that developed diabetes at a fairly late stage in life. I got her when I was 19 and she passed away when I was 36. She didn't have diabetes until here last year of life but she still got around normally and (other than the shots) had a very normal kitty life. I was an alcoholic and drug user for many years and she was there thru it all. I'm just glad I had straightened myself out (5 years) before she finally passed away.
Never occured to me to look on the internet for support.

I always go on the internet for support, actually, so it was natural for me.
I can only imagine what it's like to have a cat during 16~17 years. What a relationship. I've had Billy for 9 years and it seems like nothing could tear us apart. His sister passed away in February. It was rough.
I'm glad to hear that Loki only had diabetes for about a year. They do get used to the shots and pokes, but the illness must make them feel bizarre at times. Congratulations on the changes you've made in your life, too. It takes a lot of courage and perseverance. I can only admire that.

I actually had more of an issue giving her the shots than she did getting them.
I got allergy shots for about 6 years when I was a kid so I am used to recieving them but I strongly dislike giving them.
Did I mention that my Australian Shephard (adopted from an animal shelter) has gone blind since we got her?
I also am working as a full time caregiver for my grandmother.
I take care of people and animals for a living. At least for now.
Oh, sorry to hear about Billy's sister.

I thought I'd have a problem with them, too, but when I saw how little the needle was (I'm usually not too fond of needles) and how little Billy actually minded I was okay. I can see how it would be difficult for you, though. Allergy shots sound awful.
Taking care of people and other living beings as a living sure sounds great! It must feel good to know that you're making a difference in other lives. ^_^

Beautiful photo! I love his coloring. Looks like he wasn't the least bit worried about the moving going on around him. Unfortunately one of my cats would be the complete opposite, hiding and fretting.

Thank you (: I'm lucky with Billy, he's quite the relaxed type. It was his 7th move in 9 years of life (well actually 8th if you count the first one, from his mom's home to ours) but he has never complained. It only takes him a few hours to get used to the new place if I am there to take care of him. Sometimes I wonder if he's really a cat.
His sister wasn't as laid back, though, so I know what you're talking about. I took a look at your gallery : your cats are adorable. I always loved black and white cats.

Thanks for taking a look. It's funny, both my black and white babies are from Tortoiseshell mothers, so it goes to show just how many types of colors a tortie can throw out in her kittens. I have to admit though, with all my animals being black and white, at least for the most part in one of my dogs anyway, I look forward to getting a different colored animal next time around, lol.

Karelliann In reply to Mana4X2 [2011-06-27 15:41:52 +0000 UTC]
Are they males? That would explain why they're not tortoiseshells themselves. But yes, I bet torties can give a looot of different colored kittens.
I'd love to know what Billy and Mia's dad looked like. Their mom was a blue-creamed cat (or at least, that's a direct translation from what we call it in French). She was gray with beige spots. She gave birth to two gray females and one cream male. I always thought it was funny how her colors got separated at birth.
My only problem with black animals is that they're so hard to photograph, haha.

Nope... both my girls are, um, female, lol.
It's always interesting to see how the kittens turn out no matter the colors of their parents. I've just had so much to do with tortie cats and their litters that it still fascinates me to this day.
Black cats would be hard to photograph. Thankfully the white on my girls makes them stand out, .
