I thought that many people I know here wouldn´t like the series. I myself have read the original webcomic, or at least some of it, and seen six episodes of the anime. I just hope that people wouldn´t take it too seriously. It reminds me of one person that started to accuse me for making the religion look bad in my fictional comic project, and that I must hate religions because of it.
It´s ok for people not to like series of course.
Axis Powers Hetalia just makes me smile, it´s light to read and watch when you understand it´s fictional. Finland is described as a little boy who is protected by Sweden. It doesn´t bother me, because I know our history and how the things really are. 
Many artists have made lots of laughs about countries´relations and wars, and they always get negative feedback. Wich they partly deserve. It´s good that people respect the history and show it, but it´s also good to see how they can sometimes just take some features as humor. That is a proof of the fact they know how wars and such are just no good for the welfare, and not necessary. Mankind have had so many useless wars, it´s good to talk about it seriously and joke about it.
Just some thoughts.

Yes, people tend to be serious about things that are close to their heart. You love Hellsing though, so you must also understand some of the fictional things that are made from WW2. It´s a good thing.

...if you see many, many comedies, they all make fun of events in some of these tragic periods. That's why the guy who draws it mostly makes the comic about ANECDOTES in WWII, and less about the war itself. Like, how german spies could be caught in their way of cutting their potatoes in french territory, etc. XD
I see how it could offend people like you, but honestly, it's not going LOLHOLOCAUST or anything like that.
And before you go all gtfo hetalia fan, butthurt, etc, know that i wasn't expecting to find this in searching hetalia fanart XD;
But i must say, the bloke's look is funny XD also, true, research is primordial when you make these caricatures.
