Description So, this is my first attempt ever at realism...I am not exactly satisfied with it, but oh well. I learned some stuff.

I mostly need to figure out how to make the hair and lips look like they're a part of the person...if that makes sense. I don't know how to do the blending there, so I guess I am going to keep practicing with that and look for tutorials.

Anyways, I mostly used this tutorial to help me learn. I had a lot of fun trying to follow the steps. I have always been more of a hands-on learner, so this was a little challenging for me, as are most tutorials, but it was satisfying to see that it kind of helped me in the end result. Again, I am not completely happy with this outcome, but I still think it looks nice enough to post.

This is my OC, Shaelyn Sage.

Yeah, you could definitely use more practice if realism is what you're going for, but looking at it as a stylized anime picture, it's damn good. The way you colored the skin is pretty damn impressive.

I'm not the best at realism so my advice here may or may not help, but I recommend adding a bit more shadows on her face. Particularly around her nose and under her lips.

The hair...my god the hair. It must have taken you forever to do it and it shows. I love it. The eyes are also perfect.

Thanks for the compliments. I was thinking along the same lines as you to fix it up more into a 'realism', but I think at the same time I want something more stylized.

Hey, I'm all for more stylized art. I look around DeviantART every now and again and I see fan art that's basically copying someone else's style. While that's good to practice, it gets kinda boring to look at for me, personally, y'know?

I like people twisting things around to fit their styles instead of twisting their styles around to fit someone else's.

I totally get what you mean there. When I followed this tutorial, I wasn't trying to copy this person's style, I was just trying to learn from the way they did things. That's why the hair and eyes have their own flare and reflection of my style in them.

I didn't know you used a tutorial for this one o.o Didn't read the description, just looked at the picture. Bad habit of mine.

But it's good that even though you were following a tutorial, you didn't copy line for line.

Nope, really just used the brushes in the way it said. I did use the same direction of light source just to make my life a little easier, but I tried to do my own thing with it. I am actually surprised with myself that I used a tutorial, usually they're too difficult for me to follow because of the way I learn. -_-

Yeah, I'm kinda the same way. I avoid tutorials as much as possible and try to learn by just studying the details, but sometimes you just gotta use a tutorial y'know?

For me it was especially since I hadn't a clue of what I was doing. I learned a lot though and even altered some things to my own personal knowledge too.

That's good. Sometimes exploring the unknown can really open our minds.
