¡Ja!

Gracias Nieves. Me llevó siete horas. Terminé reventada. Al final ya no sabía que color ponía ni como cortaba los trozos de tela. Pero el resultado fue mejor de lo que yo pensaba que quedaría. A ver si te llamo y hablamos.

Here we see a bird who is looking at something that may have caught his/her interest, the bird seems to live in a kind of forest. In this Artwork there are at least three elements that caught my attention: colours, composition and shapes.
Let's start from colours. Colours of bird are pretty bright and intense plus i do love how they stand out the dull background. You can perceive how lively the bird is, especially the way eye was made. It seems it is moving and following the observer. I do love the white spot on pupil, this add a really nice three-dimensional effect. This bird has a really inquisitive look. Mhmhm...i wonder what might have caught his/her attention Even if background is dark, the amount of small pieces of fabric makes it look like a forest, maybe a shady forest. Who knows^^ The amount of warm colours makes the overall Artwork really pleasant-looking and despite colour of background i don't see any break between it ans bird. It is all harmonious.
The second element i love about it, is the composition. I simply love the not so simple texture. The texture may be simple but if one look carefully, he/she can notice the small sizes of fabric pieces especially if one look closely at feathers. I love how elongated pieces simulates pretty well feathers, particularly those of crown and neck. Let me say that if i didn't read type of medium used under title name, i would think it were a Traditional Drawing. Congrats +1000000000000!
Seriously i still find it hard to see it is an artisan craft, it looks like a Traditional Drawing O_O
Back to composition. I like the mass of pieces, they make the bird looks fluffy^^
I like the good proportions of bird, this makes him/her natural.
The third element i love are the shapes. I like the arrangement of pieces that make feathers. The slightly shaggy look add a really funny and nice touch to the bird as if he/she has a lot of personality. I like these asymmetrical feathers because they create an overall flowing and soft look to the bird. I also like the different sizes of feathers.
Even if i don't see any shadings i love this Artowork, the glossy feathers, the inquisitive look and overall joyfull Artwork. Plus i love the inner concept that is present in the work: small pieces make the big picture. Great job Karyl!!!

Thank you very much, Rahula. It was a course I made last Sunday about this technic. We have to choose between a rose or a bird. Of course I chose the bird. The resulting bird of those who made the bird was very different ones from others. And each one of us gave a different expression to the eye. You are right: there aren´t shades. We would have needed more fabrics. Here there are possibly thirty fabrics. It´s my first work with this technic. The next one will have shadow and it would be more complex.

I am actually super impressed with this, how do you make such amazing artworks in this method?? Traditional art itself is hard for me, but this is mixed in with craft due to using fabrics and I'm amazed. I suck at crafts so I do admire people who know how to use these materials well. The lorikeet looks so bright and lovely, I enjoy the varied colours they are perfect.

Traditional art is hard to me as well. But I love the bright color and the fabrics. This technic consists in to cut in slides pieces of fabrics overlapping ones with others to simulate the feathers of the bird. I was afraid at first. I didn´t know what the result would be. But it was easier than I expected. I´m glad you like it.

Hola! (Si me sentaba no tenía perspectiva). Llegó un momento que ya no veía telas. Sólo manchas de color y que cortaba las telas de cualquier manera. Sólo quería terminar. Pero estoy orgullosa del resultado. Me alegro que te guste.

Try to make something like this. You´ll discover it is easier than you think. There are some books that explain this technic. Look for Susan Carlson books. She is the pioneer with this way to make quilts.

Thank you very much. It´s a beautiful technic, isn't it? I could believe I was able to do until I saw the result. If you want to see quilts better than mine check in internet two names: Danny Amazonal and Susan Carlson. Susan Carlson was the pioneer of this way to make pictures and both of them have amazing and incredible quilts.

Oh my gosh! I actually saw Susan's alligator and rhino quilt at the Houston Quilt Festival! I'm absolutely blown away by people like you and her who can make images come to life through textile. There's just something about it that I feel you can't get quite the same with paints or drawing. It's just fantastic.

You are lucky! I´ve only see the alligator in internet. It´s really amazing. I´d like to have imagination and a big space to make a quilt like that. Huston is an amazing quilt festival. There are people really good. I´d like to go there. But it´s the first time I ve made this kind of quilt. I have to try to make one with shadows. You see my lori parakeet has lights only. I´ll need a lot of fabrics.

There were some fantastic pieces there and your work would have definitely made it in. The detail's just incredible.
I love the lorikeet as he is now, but I'd be super excited to see what you could accomplish with shades and highlights. With textiles it'd be insane!!!

I was thinking this morning in making a tapestry with Rudy and Izzy with this technic. Yesterday I was checking in internet quilts of Susan Carlson who is the first one who used this way of painting with fabrics and I saw a quilt of a budgie and I thought in the work I promised to make for you. I expect to have it for Christmas or over the first months of next year.

I would love that. I'll note you my address when Christmas gets closer. Oh, and before I forget, I featured LLuvia in a post I made about the normal budgie mutation over on the Budgieness group.
