Description
Many of the licensed mechs from Early Battletech in some way or another simply didn't seem to follow the rules. Since those rules state that the Locust can torso twist and rotate it's arms 120 degrees outward I decided to tinker with the design as the Crusher Joe mech didn't really look like it could do that.Maybe they didn't mean to be so literal. Though I remember the non-licensed mechs being so...beyond the now fixed Jenner.

I agree FASA pretty much ripped off the images from the animes and gave 'em stats. But in their defense it was the 80's, and anime was still a cult thing, it was just beginning to air in '83, and gaming was still, well a cult thing too. It wasn't until the 90's that things caught up with them and that anime became more main stream. Transforming mecha was part and parcel of the game in the 1st edition, and gone in the second edition.
Great design, it captures the look and feel of the game exactly!

Thank you, yeah I suppose FASA didn't think that internet thing would catch on
I think there may have been a disconnect somewhere. You had mechs that looked like planes, had flashlights not in their stats, were always holding ammo clips, etc. I think either there was a break down or some laziness involved. I wonder what the game would have looked like if they either accounted for all that or modified the artwork to match the rules....could be a fun project sometime.

Armor? An infantry squad with knives would scare these guys if they ever caught up to the

Loving this Locust, looks sturdy and fast, got to agree that some of the TRO artwork is pretty bad from a £D & mechanical PoV.
Like the Head blister on your Locust, actually looks like you could fit a pilot in there...unlike the TRO!

Thank you. I didn't really think the art in the 3025 book was terrible. Though there were mechs good at things they statistically weren't, mechs with gear they statistically didn't have. Then you had mechs inconsistent with the rules like the Locust.
Of course one of the first miniature sets I bought, the recon set!

I know what you mean!
Was re-reading the Gray Death "Thunder Rift" trilogy last week and it made me smile as it has chapters where 2 people are crammed into a Locusts cockpit
So I figure the TROs are only there for inspiration...certainly from modeling a working model PoV I've not seen 1 TRO yet that didn't have a lot of problems.

That's funny, few weeks ago I found a copy of the original with the weird Locust cover so I bought it.
I think the newer and Upgrade Tech Readout artists are much better at making the mechs work then before, but they aren't trying to cram in anime mechs. Though most of those designs aren't done in 3D so modeling them comes across some issues. I think an all 3D Tech readout with rear views and all that would be nice, but not Battletech style.

Now you've got me jealous, I've got the '93 ROC reprint, with the Vallejo cover showing Lori with the white headband (babes sell books I suppose ). Don't recall the '87 cover, so I'm wondering how weird the Locust was?
The clan omni's poster is a great reference though, showing the front and side views of all 16, it's a pity they never did that for the rest of the stable.

The clan mech pictures were good for reference but I don't think they looked right in the source books. a 3/4 front and back view would have been perfect for that though.
The '92 reprint of Rift had the Marauder II, the original of that book had the Locust with the missile launchers etc. I think it was an improvement over the Crusher Joe Ostall in a way.

My bad, I mistook it with "Price of Glory", yeah the Marauder striding through the streets of Sarghad is a pretty cool image

Yeah, I like the locust better, but just because it deviates from everyone else's version
