Description Grampy and Betty Boop

I was doing some reading on the history of Betty Boop and she did have quite a list of characters to work with. Her "pet" dog to start, and this character Grampy who was a bit of an inventor. So I started with a simple gag.

Instant water.

So why is it colored like this? Well, these were filmed in the 1930's. Away back then, before digital, before 13 TV channels, before color, almost before electricity, there was black and white. Using this as a limit I only used black and two greys.

Yes, of course there is more in the scrapbook: [link]

Don't feel bad. He wasn't used much. I didn't know about him until this either.

wow a drawn image of Grampy the inventor, its rare to see a image of him on deviantart

to this day his relation to betty boop is unknown, he was proberly a friend becuse betty boop has kissed him a few times in the cartoons plus they went out, but in an episode called Grampys house he had a (babys highchair) in his house

grampy once had a cartoon which featured him all by himself, called Christmas comes but once a year (1936)

I had seen other characters, but didn't know about Grampy. So once I fumbled onto him, he was a great target.

I also found this drawing [link] that was real appealing.

Thanks for the comments and the bit of history.

^ this is one of grim natwicks sketches
for the first cartoon Accordion Joe (1929) which was a talkartoon cartoon, it looks really good its a shame the cartoons lost in time
betty boop is seen as a red indian princess.

[link]
^ accordion joe was based as a one shot cartoon
but betty boop appears and shes most likley somewhat a helen kane caricature.

Grim natwick also has some others from the same time which he sketched up
[link]
^ Betty Boop as Dangerous Nan Mcgrew
When she appears in the Cartoons, she looks very diffrent [link]
to mention helen kane had already played Dangerous nan mcgrew earlier in (1930)

Heres Grim natwicks sketch for barnacle bill
