Its been so long since I've drawn them as teenagers! Teenage Roy and Riza hold a special place in my heart, it's funny because I actually liked teenage Royai before I liked adult Royai XD

But yes! A slice of mine and *Toasty-Coconut 's teenage Royai headcanon. Berthold lives in East City so Roy lives at his house since he's from Central. Roy has to do show a lot of determination and devotion before Berthold takes him in, Berthlold really doesn't take on apprentices. He's 13 when he starts studying alchemy with Berthold, Riza is 10. The two meet when Roy is bringing up his things to his room, he tries taking up too much of his stuff at once and ends up having some of his things fall down the stairs, Riza ends up helping him and being rather condescending about it.

At first Riza is cold to Roy and not very accepting of him, as a little girl who's been neglected most of her life, this random boy who all of the sudden comes into her life and gets all of this attention from her father causes a lot of negative feelings and jealousy within her. Roy though is friendly and persisting of her and eventually Riza admits her real feelings to him all upset. Roy feels bad for making her feel this way but assures that the two of them could be friends, and he admits to her that the two of them actually are more alike than she thinks, and that his parents are dead and he lives with his aunt who he's not very close to. Riza, who is a quiet and withdrawn girl, gives in due to her want of attention and acceptance, also finding an odd comfort in Roy.

Their friendship isn't anything major or deep throughout the time Roy is studying there, they're both busy and focused with their studies and all. Riza though develops a small childish crush on him, finding him to have admirable qualities. However, she doesn't know how to properly express herself and can find this frustrating, and always is hesitant, though can seem to have a bit of an attitude. Roy never notices this and never develops any sort of crush back for her, Riza is too young for him to feel any attraction for her at this time.

Their friendship never progresses into anything deeper, more of a small thing between them in which they have someone to talk to and someone they can find comfort in when they need it. Roy will then leave and eventually join the military academy, coming back after his graduation, and you know what happens next :3 Aaand that's it for the general idea of our teenage headcanon, for stuff that happens after the graveyard scene in our headcanon I'll draw more pictures to explain :3
