All these people are all torches-and-pitchforks about these aliens but if we've got to have extraterrestrial life forms shooting lasers at the earth, "being sassy" seems like one of the better motivations they could have. Great comic!

Anime would be more comparable to a cartoon rather than a TV show. I don't watch it but the connotation that comes with TV shows usually is like reality television shows (like American Idol, etc.).

It's alright to dislike anything. Just like you probably have foods you don't like to eat but others do. The same would apply to anime. I've never found a liking for it. It just doesn't please me or catch my eye at all but I still like cartoons which could be considered a branch of anime.
There is no right answer to what the guy said. If he believes all anime sucks, then let him believe that. It's all a matter of opinion and tastes. ^^
