I’ve had this idea for a while now, the concept of Kiara struggling to bring the two halves of her pride together after the end of TLK2. Sure, the outsiders and pridelanders are all one pride now, but there are a lot of old wounds that still need to heal. Kiara takes it upon herself to try to mend those injuries, to be the bridge that crosses that divide. Of course, it’s not as simple as she had hoped.

Inspired by the shot in TLK2 during Not One of Us where Kiara’s face is in the sun. It’s my favorite shot in the whole movie. And man I love drawing Kiara in peachy sunrise/sunset scenes.

On a more serious note, I wanted to do this piece as a kind of response to what’s going on in the world right now. I’m so disillusioned with the concept of the American dream and the United States as a whole right now. There is a divide here. There are old wounds and old prejudices that have never been addressed, and we are really feeling it right now. I don’t know. I have a lot of feelings about the whole thing, so I tried to process them the only way I know how: making art. Okay, social commentary over.
