Description
EDIT: This is still getting-----------------------------------
my good friend Cerzz has started to dabble in the wonderful and pain-staking world of animation!
I suggest using this only as a guide, as you can see the animation itself is basic and by no means flawless!!
my tutors would screw if they knew I was workin' on this instead of my school work lol! ... me go bed now
Hope it helps Cerrz

I have recently begun animating, and the area I struggle the most in is the run cycle. This is extremely helpful! Thank you!

this isn't a stupid question at all. - technically you can just use a pencil and sheets of paper like a flick book, but if you want to get it into a format people can see online you'll need some kind of software. This was made with a program called Flash, but there are lots of different softwares out there these days, including some aps that are cheap/free. - A search online should yield some results for you
Good luck!Β

This was a huge help. I've animated running humanoids before, but never a quadruped. Thanks!

Thanks! this really helped me with the anatomy of the paws (i learnt how the legs have three sections; upper leg, lower leg and paw) and how the ears usually sit on top of the dog's head and not the side when running, as dogs don't have pointy out ears like us. also I learnt the dog's neck starts going down right where the jaw ends, otherwise it doesn't look right. your finished the shadow perspective of the legs moving on side view really helps visualise the concept.
I always knew dog legs were shaped like ><' but it's so gratifying to know how they move in relation to each other! I don't draw too many dogs so this has been a great learning excercise for me. the weight on your running dog animation is so perfect DΒ
I think I'll have to draw a dog running the other way to make sure I've got it, haha!
thanks so much

You know, I struggle with animation a great deal (the most I can do is an eye blink at the moment). And I really want to push myself greater by making more complex animations, and I notice a lot of people do running dog animations, and I think that's my next challenge. When I searched for tutorials this is the first one I found, and it looks really helpful! This looks really helpful, even over 8 years later after you submitted this!

hey there Thanks for all the recent favs.
I'm not surprised you struggle with animation; it's hard! ... I did a degree in it where I had professionals showing me how to do it and it was still SOLID! .. I seriously admire anyone who has the drive and determination to self-teach themselves this stuff.
I can tell you now tho that there are far easier exercises to practice than jumping from a blink straight to a four-legged run-cycle... if you want to give it a go then be my guest, and I hope you have a lot of fun with it but don't be discouraged if you struggle with it or if it doesn't quite turn out right! `:] if U do try it feel free to gimmie a link when Ur done!

KatCardy In reply to InnocentLittleWolf [2012-10-07 13:48:07 +0000 UTC]
Just clicking the download button should ask u where u want to save the file. i think it's an swf tho, so u may only be able to open it in ur browser if u don't have flash /
π: 0 β©: 1
InnocentLittleWolf In reply to KatCardy [2012-10-16 16:59:35 +0000 UTC]
It opens in a browser, but when I right click on it, there's no option to save it.

KatCardy In reply to InnocentLittleWolf [2012-10-16 17:14:23 +0000 UTC]
Try going to your file menue and seeing if there's an option to save or save as in there.. - right click save probably wont work as it's a SWF file, not an image :]
hope that helps!
