(Name) ran in fear down the long hall. The smell of fire filled her nose. The sounds of metal clashing on metal surrounded her. The word ‘Run’ sounded as if it was bouncing off the walls behind her. In a woman’s’ voice. Droplets of salty tears streaked her soft skin. Suddenly (Name) smacked into a wall. A deep voice kept saying her name. It was like a haunting nightmare. The shadows and fire rose higher and higher. The voices became louder and louder. (Name) put her hands over her ears and squeezed her eyes tightly shut. A desperate scream escaped her lips.

She bottled upright. Her eyes wide with fear and her hair was sticking to the back of her neck. Several bearded faces peered down at her worriedly. Someone’s fingers were soothingly petting her hair. Nervously, she looked over her shoulder. It was Thorin. She relaxed slightly. “Are you alright?” Bofur asked. “Clearly not,” Golin replied. (Name) shrank back into Thorin’s chest. “Give the girl space,” Balin scolded, “She’s clearing frightened.” They crowd back away, filtering back to their own bed mats.

“Are you alright little one?” Thorin asked softly. (Name) nodded. “I’m okay.” Thorin scooted her off his lap and stood up. “We need to keep moving,” he announced. “What about the girl?” Dwalin said gruffly. Thorin glanced down at the little girl. Guilt flashed in his blue eyes. “She’s coming with us,” the king-to-be decided. “But she’s just a child, who no doubt, will slow us down,” Dwalin argued. “She is one of us,” Thorin glared, “A dwarf without a home.” Dwalin crossed his arms over his chest but stayed silent.

(Name) looked up at Thorin. Her stomach started churning. His blue eyes met her (e/c) ones. A frown etched into her face. The adult dwarf sighed and picked her up. “Are you okay with coming along?” he asked. (Name) nodded. “Now it’ll be extremely dangerous, so if danger nears, I need you to stay with the hobbit,” Thorin instructed. Again the girl nodded. “Stay out of the way, until I can train you at the very least,” Thorin told her. (Name) nodded a third time. “And one more thing,” Thorin said, setting her down. The little dwarf girl looked up at him. “Speak a little more,” a small smile touched his cheeks. “Yes sir,” she grinned.

Thorin nodded to her and walked away. (Name) quietly padded to the left over fire embers. The glowing ashes warmth the tips of her fingers tips. Two bodies plopped on either side of the girl. “Not much of a fire is it, kiddo?” said Fili. “But it’s warm enough,” she replied. “Sorry about yesterday,” Kili said, gently wrapping his arms around her. (Name) stiffened in his touch. The other brother hug her too. Thorin poked his nephews in the back of the head, “If you pansies are down suffocating my child- err, the girl, the rest of us would like to get a move on,” Fili and Kili grinned at each other slyly. (Name) could see the gears turning in their heads. “Let us go,” Kili swung (Name) up on his back. The girl let out a little shriek. Fili chuckled, as Thorin eyed his nephew careful.

Thorin moved to the front of the group, besides Balin. The group began to make their way through the woods. “Who did we forget?” Nori mumbled. “Gandalf left yesterday,” Bilbo said dully. “He should be returning soon,” “Did someone say my name?” a deep voice said. (Name) looked over her shoulder sharply. Her jaw drop a little. There was a very tall man in grey robes, a flowing white beard, a grey hat, and staff. “Gandalf,” Bilbo said, sounding relieved, “You’re back,”

“I am indeed,” Gandalf nodded, “It seems another has joined your ranks,” (Name) blushed slightly and buried her face into Kili’s neck, when the tall man looked at her. Gandalf smiled slightly, then looked at Thorin questioningly. “I’ll tell you tonight,” the leader said. The Company began traveling again, seeming more relaxed now that Gandalf was amongst their ranks again.

By the time night fell, Kili and Fili had insisted that they carry (Name). Though she hardly walked any of the journey, (Name) was exhausted. “You two might as well be her big brothers,” Balin said, smiling at Fili and Kili. “No way that’s so weird,” Fili said. “Yeah, she’s Thorin’s daughter,” Kili flashed a grin. Thorin stiffed as Balin smiled. “(Name), come here,” Thorin said, ignoring his sisters’ sons laughter. The little dwarf girl hurried to Thorin. “There someone you need to meet,” he said. “Who?” she asked, trying to match Thorin’s stride. “Someone very important,” was all he said.

Sitting up against a stone wall was the man, (Name) had come to understand, as Gandalf. “This is the girl?” Gandalf said. “Of course it is,” Thorin said, “My nephews didn’t just produce child,” (Name) smiled slightly. Thorin lifted her up and set her on top of a smooth out stone. “This is Gandalf the Grey. He’s one of the wizard in this land,” Thorin introduced. (Name) craned her neck to get a good look at the wizard. “And you’re the little dwarf girl, I saw early,” Gandalf said kindly. “Yes, I’m (Name) from the Iron Hills,” she introduced herself. Her fingers lingered around the pendant around her neck.

“How did you come to this Company?” Gandalf questioned. “I was lost in the woods and Thorin found me,” she said softly, looking at her lap. “Why did you run from you home?” the wizard asked. (Name) stayed silent for a moment. “Dragon fire,” she whispered. Her little figure began to shake. “I…. Mother told me…” she pulled her knees to her chest and her (e/c) orbs grew wide with fear. Thorin pulled (Name) into his chest. An extra wave of protectiveness for the girl, washed over the king. Clearly feeling sorrowful, Gandalf murmured words Thorin nor (Name) knew to his staff. (Name) looked up as a flash of blue light glowed from the staff. Suddenly a blue butterfly fluttered over and landed on her nose. (Name) giggled as the butterfly turned to dust. “It’s late (Name),” Thorin said, “You should get some sleep,” he lifted her into his arms and carried her from the wizard.

“You need to get something to eat and some rest,” Thorin instructed. Hunger flickered in her gaze as Thorin gave her a bit of food. After her little meal, (Name) laid down, her eyelids felt heavy. Just as she shut her eyes, a loud roar sounded in the canyon below. She shot upright. “What was that?” (Name) asked frightened. “Orcs,” Thorin said, drawing her to his chest. “Don’t fear,” Kili said, “They can’t get us up here,” “We don’t know that,” Dwalin said, staring into the fire. “It’s alright (Name),” Thorin promised. “We’ll be okay,”

(Name) cuddled into Thorin’s chest. He smiled idly. The little girl and he shared a past of dragon fire. He knew she would wake up with tears in her eyes the next morning. Thorin looked down and saw she was sleeping. A bigger smile curled on to his face. She was pretty cute and his nephews were very good babysitters, so maybe he could keep the girl after all.

This is excellent I can't wait to read more. I hope you make this into a long series. I mean I'd like to see her make it all the way to Erebor.

I'm hoping to make this longer. Most of my series are roughly seven chapters or so, but I'm planing on making this longer than seven chapters.
