Description
This photo was taken 3 years ago when Lily was 3 years old. This is the story about the day Rosemary decided to sign Lily up for gymnastics classes.
It was a warm Saturday afternoon, and both Rose and Cedar had the day off from their jobs, so they decided to take the kids to the park to play and enjoy the sunshine. When they arrived at the big playground, Daisy and Fern both went to the climber with the twisty slide and monkey bars, while Rose sat with Lily and little Violet in the sand box.
After showing her baby sister Violet how to dig in the sand, Lily then suddenly got the idea to walk along the edge of the sand box like it was a tight rope.
LILY: Mommy, look!
ROSEMARY: Yeah, I see! Just be careful.
LILY: Ok!
Lily kept walking along the edge, holding her arms out to keep her balance. She wasn’t even wobbling or anything. Rose was pretty impressed seeing someone so young balance so well.
ROSEMARY: Wow, look at you go! You’re like a little acrobat walking on a tight rope.
LILY: Yeah!
ROSEMARY: See if you can make it all the way around without touching the grass or the sand.
LILY: Ooh! Ok!
So Lily kept going around. She actually did really well. Only once did she mistakenly put her foot in the sand to support herself so she didn’t fall over. Otherwise, she made the whole way around the edge of the big sand box, and when she made it back to where her mom and sister were, she did a jump back into the sand box.
LILY: Ta daaaa!
Rose clapped for her, and so did Cedar from the bench she was sitting on near the older kids.
ROSEMARY: Great job, Lily!
CEDAR: That was awesome!
LILY: I wanna go again!
ROSEMARY: Go for it! See if you can go faster this time!
So off Lily went again. She went a little faster this time, and still did really well. Once she finished that, her parents started offering her some other challenges for her, like trying it backwards, or taking bigger or smaller steps. Lily played this game the whole rest of their time at the park, and she had lots of fun with it.
Eventually, it was time to start heading back home. On the way back to where the car was parked, all the kids talked about how much fun they had, including Lily. Suddenly, Rose had a thought.
ROSEMARY: Hmm, you know, Lily, I bet you’d love to take gymnastics classes. You get to do lots of balancing and jumping, and other fun stuff.
LILY: Ooh! Sounds fun!
CEDAR: Gymnastics! What a great idea!
ROSEMARY: Right!? She’s already a natural at balancing. Something tells me that this might be a great thing for her. I’ll look into it when we get home.
When the family got home, Rose immediately started researching different gymnastics programs offered in Warrensville, but unfortunately all of them had age 5 as the minimum age, so Lily was going to have to wait a while. But that time came sooner than Lily thought it would, but that’s a story for another day.
