Description
My new art featuring one of my favorite wild orcas - southern resident Ruffles J1. He has been missing since November 2010.The icon of all southern resident community also was the oldest SR male at the moment. Maybe he died because of his age. No one knows.
Some about artwork:
I started to work on it in February and I was so scared, because I didn't do something "big" and complex like this earlier: I had to learn how to draw water, splashes, waves, reflections and many other things. The main problem was water: I found not so many tutorials and they didn't help me. I had to learn by myself. I don't think it looks good, but for me it is already a big step in my development.
Total:
Time – ~15 hours maybe (excluding time for training)
Tools – Paint Tool SAI x Photoshop CS6 + Bamboo Pen&Touch Tablet
Process

Ohh...this is a beautiful tribute to Ruffles! You did a fantastic job with the water, too. I'm very impressed! I think it looks quite realistic! I doubt I could ever hope to do anything that nice! haha

Beautiful tribute I think you meant to say he was the oldest SR male, though. Several females are older than him
His (believed) mother is over 100 years old.

Yes, thank for amendment! I know, that Granny J2 is near 103 years old now and Ocean Sun L25 is 86 years old. I'll correct the description

I don't know about a bull, but I know the matriarch to J pod is near or over 100 years old. She was already a old girl when the study of orcas began, and shes still alive and kicking and still having calfs.
