Gooooood morning, deviantart. You join me at 9am, and I haven't slept since yesterday morning. (Admittedly I had a lie in yesterday, so it could be worse.) This is what's been eating this particular fortnight of my life: motion studies. We find footage of our chosen animal and match it as closely as possible with a simple rigged (not skinned) 3D mesh. The emphasis is on the motion, not the look. It was quite fun, when it wasn't being a complete d***.My favourite's the last one. x3 Mostly because the middle one was a w****r to do, and the first one came out a bit spazzy. Ignore the mesh intersection when the cat comes down onto the beam, I know about it and it was too late. >3>

Cute even in blocky form! Something looks up with the first one, but perhaps it wouldn't if viewed in isolation from the video reference.

Yeeeah,buying an actual license is not nice on the wallet. Luckily uni's here for us. :3 Blender's a good free alternative, though I've never used it. One of my friends/coursemates says it's perfectly fine for most things, and better than maya in some (like NPR).

I actually have Blender on my computer, I mess around in it form time to time but self teaching is a pain.

Yeah, self teaching can be an arse. Mostly having a play around is a good thing - there are also tutorials online like gnomon workshop stuff, digital tutors, etc.
Yup, I'll be sticking up my character design project from earlier in the year and probably my compositing and specialist (lipsynch) projects when I get them done. Some of us in our year are doing a group for building up our animation skills from the ground up, so I'll probably put stuff from that up too. x3
