Description Hey guys.

Colorful somewhat almost steampunk eye. Just for you! Mwah. and look! It's dripping. I fit the trend (; Haha

I know it's not perfect by any means. I only had a super thick brush and no beforehand sketch for this.
When I go home and get my full range of brushes, I'll do a better shaped more detailed one.

---------

I'm open for commissions (as usual).
I'm thinking about opening a special in this style (cheaper in comparison).
And if anyone wants this, I'm selling it for $20. Note me if you are interested in anything above (:

"steampunk eye"
Are you kidding me? Some really badly painted gears (that don't look like gears btw) doesn't make it steam punk.
The "gears" look the wheels on a cart, they don't even interlock fgs.

What? Bored? I'm perfectly entertained. I was just stating what I thought of your supposed 'steampunk' art.
It's like your mocking the genre really.

If you're entertained, I'm entertained
I'm sorry you think I'm 'mocking the genre'. I'm sure the steampunk police will catch me one day. Darn.
But I take the critique to heart. I really do agree this was not one of my better pieces.

You're entitled to your opinion. I can definitely do better. As it says in the the description, I was working with an incredibly thick brush haha I took all of my other art supplies home from my dorm room for the holidays.

If you know what your doing the materials you use shouldn't affect your piece.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KatyLipscomb In reply to 100wordlimit [2012-12-04 12:12:07 +0000 UTC]

*sigh* Consider that my brush was close to 5 times thicker than my thickest line.
If you look at my still life pieces in my gallery you will see that yes, I have a clue what I am doing (and I have very strong business outside deviantART to prove it). I realize that the eye is slightly misshapen, and I would have like to have added some more detail, but honestly when your brush is that thick and dead some things really are not possible, especially in a 45 minute period.

I don't mind being critiqued, but if you are going to critique me at least give a valid one. "I don't think this is good" doesn't cut it. That just borders on insult. And I highly recommend reevaluating your own work before critiquing others. It's not bad, there is just a lot of room for improvement. Thank you. Consider your words more carefully if you want to be taken seriously in the future.

100wordlimit In reply to KatyLipscomb [2012-12-05 02:22:38 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't giving you a critique, when you answered my first comment you said I was entitled to my own opinion which of course I am. I stated my opinion, it doesn't look very nice at all and it shouldn't have made the front page. I being 15 need to do alot of work. Of course my pieces won't match up to yours you're 19 and have been on dA for at least 4 years so you've probably been drawing for a while to. I've only recently started painting maybe 4 monthes ago, so I know my gallery needs to be worked on. I've been drawing for two years and I can't draw because health problems in my wrist. I'm open for critiques I'm ready to learn I just didn't like that your piece was on the front page when there are less known and way better artist out there.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KatyLipscomb In reply to 100wordlimit [2012-12-05 04:06:15 +0000 UTC]

More established artists will make the front page, that's just how deviantART works. You brought up some valid points, I'm willing to concede that. But look at the rest of the junk that makes the front page. Instead of complaining about it, do something. Suggest DDs that you think deserve a feature, ect. I'm not hating on your art, that was not my intention. I was merely suggesting to improve upon your own work before deciding what is 'good' and 'bad' among other artists, otherwise you won't be taken seriously. I'm sorry my piece upset you, and I wish you luck with your wrist injury.

I agree with Dead End.

KatyLipscomb In reply to toolazytoobored [2012-12-09 00:03:39 +0000 UTC]

There is not much to disagree on. I agree with her too, as my comment implies.
I cannot control what makes the front page. To my surprise, this did. It's a fairly lazy 45 minute painting that was done with an oversized brush stiff from acrylic paint. I can't explain it anymore than Dead End or you can.
Like I said above, more established artists will make the front page. *shrug*
