Description
Edit: thank you all for the positive feedback on this piece! It makes me so happy to know that you all like to see me trying different styles and things. For everyone who has been asking, here is a list of materials used (also partially visible in the picture):
-Base layer of watercolor (PH martin's concentrated watercolor)
-2nd layer of makers (mostly tombo, but also copic in the areas that I didn't want to bleed)
-3rd layer of colored pencil (faber castelle and prismacolor)
-4th layer of a mix of materials including: gel pen, liquid acrylic, more marker and pencil
Hey guys! I've been working on this for the past week...it's part of my final drawing project. There will be 2-4 others to accompany this one, each in a different style. This is my realistic approach, referenced from this image: fav.me/d648zfh I took a photo to show a little more of my work space and process. I've still got a few more layers and a background to add.
Little note about the project:
I know I don't usually post realistic stuff, but I wanted to showcase something that I don't normally draw for my final project. Because so much of my art is a little less realistic, sometimes I think that there is the assumption that my art is a 'cop-out'. I feel like this is how a lot of artists are viewed, especially in the modern day art world. I wanted to comment on this generalization with a series of drawings- each completed in a different style, progressing from very realistic to more abstracted.
sjlfdsjklajl;sdjf IN OTHER NEWS. I will be at MomoCon again this year! I got a last minute table after being wait-listed. So exciting!

I have to ask; One gorgeous painting.
Now my questions.
I just recently bought colored pencils ( prisma x faber castell )
Markers ( Spectrum Noir ) And I am VERY new to 'coloring' traditional media. I just am scared- because if I like the drawing- and color and mess up the whole thing is ruined. I have difficulties making commitments XDDD! Anyways.
I was interested in the use of layering with different medias.
So you would, first layer it with markers and + watercolors - THEN pencils to get the layering effect.
Does that ever damage the pencils or markers in use of different layers? On top of each other. Especially marker AFTER the pencil? Since Fabers are oiled based?
And when you went to the liquid acy and THEN again with colored pencils and markers- was the liquid acrylic last? Or another under layer? And if so what effect did it have on your markers + pencils?

In my opinion, realistic art is a little boring and easy to do if you learn the grid method. It takes a lot more skill and creativity to do what you do!
