I would never advise a company to forget the past. Rethink conventions, add to mechanics and polish what doesn't need change. Forgetting the past means forgetting your roots and if you forget your roots, you're not Zelda.

At first I thought this was Zidane from Final Fantasy IX because of the hair...then I saw the uniform...and the tags...and grinned like a little devil. I like the subdued colors (in conjuction with the highlighted blues), and my favorite part is that, in combination with your description, the artwork has created a story in my mind.
