This is great! But Im really curious.. Does anyone know why people shade the character base in gray? I've been trying to figure it out for months now.

do you mean why they colour in greyscale tones to start with? if so then from what i understand it helps them maintain contrast to avoid 'flat' tones

Oh yeah, I know about gray scaling.. But some people look like they are coloring ontop of it without gray scaling it? Idk, it confusing me so much! Maybe they are gray scaling but in their tutoirals they arent shading in gray? ..They just go with coloring it normaly but with the base as a gray. (But why?) I..dont understand. Maybe Im thinking to hard? Its really bothering me cause I want to use it but I dont get it! I appreciate your reply btw!

ohhh do you mean when they keep the greyscale layer and then put a new layer on top for colours and set it to multiply?
if not then i haven't a clue ahahah
sorry :''D

I think that is for establishing the different parts the person will color later. For example, paint all the skin gray, and all the clothes black. Easy colors to make sure there won't be a part with gray clothes or black skin due to the contrast. Then you lock the layer and paint the color you want - green, blue, whatever. I think it's good when you have adjacent colors that are too similar, like white and yellow, or dark green and dark blue, etc. In big pictures like this is quite useful
I also wondered a lot about this xD
It is only my conclusion tho...
Hope it was not too confused to understand

Oh haha, thank you! To be honest I hate my soft coloring and art style.. I want something that'll pop up and make people go "WOAHH!" .. Most reactions I get or like "Ahh, this is so soft and it makes me feel comfortable.." Especially on my doujinshi pages sense they have a messy warm feel to them? I guess the paper like textures and soft sketch lines makes it feel that way? I guess its just something I cant get rid off.. But anyways, thanks so much!

Aw, your style looks beatufil!
But I guess what is important is how we feel about our drawings, so do what you think is better! I'm sure your followers will support you, just like I will
I think they have this soft look due to the saturation. Your color choices always tend to pastel tones, white-ish yellows and grey-ish blues. If you want more vivid colors, I would say go crazy, pick more saturated colors. Pick an illustration or photo you really like and use the eyedropper one them, then try to create another picture with the same pallete.
These would be my tips, but I try hard myself to find a color style I like
Just don't be afraid of trying new things!
Good luck with your drawings
