Thanks so much! Yeah, I think watercolours and Transformers go hand in hand. They just work so well.

Nothing I'm sure a good cup of coffee won't fix. c;
I think the tree looks lovely, but if you're not happy with it luckily there are tons of youtube tutorials out there! I found this one, and it seems like an easy to follow tutorial, just remember to put captions on.Β

If you haven't looked into this already, something I highly recommend looking into for your watercolour pieces is masking fluid. ---> www.dickblick.com/products/winβ¦
It's not that difficult to find, I found listings on amazon and walmart, though I'd like to think most art supply stores would sell it. It's this goo you put on your drawing and once it dries you can paint over it without getting paint into the areas with the masking fluid. I would used it to help keep my lines clean when I painted. So for your painting for example, I'd put masking fluid along the inside of the line art for Deadend so I could paint the background without worrying about the paint getting inside my lines. The best part? The masking fluid peels right off.Β

I could use some coffee.Β Β
Funnily enough, that's the very tutorial I looked at to get an idea of what to do. I tried matching his technique but it came out completely different. I noticed he had a bigger round brush which I don't have but I can't be too sure that was the problem. Not to mention, his paints come out immediately vibrant once it's on fresh paper. I think I might do a proper practice using that video because that tree looks beautiful.
Yes! I keep forgetting to go out and get masking fluid haha. It would be sooo helpful, seeing as I have a lack of control with paint staying within lines while also keeping highlights preserved. Learn your boundaries, paint!

Some of it may be technique, and certainly different brushes can achieve different looks. Just keep practicing! c:Β

Deadend: Why did that tree have this orange sap.. Was it crying? Or was it blood..? I think i'll save it for later.. The scent feels.. like nature crying in pain and sorrow.. At least I won't be able to be in pain.. alone.

Wow! You've outdone yourself when it comes to drawing the TF formΒ Β Dead End looks shiny and contemplative, and it looks like he's walking toward the viewer despite the limited movement depicted. It's not exaggerated, but just right. The color blending and shading also look better than previous works, but I can't quite put my finger on why. The minimalist background works for Dead End too, since he likely isn't paying attention to the world around him.
Great jobΒ Β

Kawaiipiika In reply to MadnessJones [2020-02-03 01:51:05 +0000 UTC]
The fact that he looks more shiny than I can usually make TFs was just appropriate. My guess is that I layered the colours more, especially the black. I sometimes don't do it often enough. I think him also being back lit makes him stand out more against the white. I like your idea about the background, but in truth, I didn't know what to do with it. I just came to the decision that it didn't need anything more.
Thank you!

MadnessJones In reply to Kawaiipiika [2020-02-03 12:45:36 +0000 UTC]
I think layering the dark colors worked in your favor, at least for Dead End since he's a darker color. I wouldn't suggest it for Skyfire or most of the Aerialbots though, unless it was for their red parts.Β

Kawaiipiika In reply to MadnessJones [2020-02-03 23:52:39 +0000 UTC]
Hm, yeah. I'm still unsure how to tone white. I've been using blue which works for the most part but I know that I can't just limit myself to that. There are other ways to do it, I just have to see how other artists handle it and study from there.
π: 0 β©: 1
MadnessJones In reply to Kawaiipiika [2020-02-04 01:30:12 +0000 UTC]
I think blue works. Shading is up to the individual artist. I think it also depends on whatβs surrounding the object. A blue sky means blue shading works. Of course the Aerialbots have red parts, so maybe pink shading would help to reflect those. To be fair Iβm not the best person to go to for shading advice. I barely remember to shade my own work. LOL! XD

Kawaiipiika In reply to MadnessJones [2020-02-04 03:31:36 +0000 UTC]
Yeah you're absolutely right. Taking colours from a background or part of the character itself can be applied to the shading. That also helps avoid flat paintings which I still have trouble with. Β
π: 0 β©: 1
MadnessJones In reply to Kawaiipiika [2020-02-04 04:11:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, flatness is one of my weaknesses too, though admittedly I've gone too far in the other direction too. That didn't happen with Dead End though. His frame looks quite three dimensional, which I think is another reason it turned out so well. I can't wait to see what you come up with next

Kawaiipiika In reply to MadnessJones [2020-02-05 00:11:31 +0000 UTC]
Oh we'll see. If you thought Dead End was good, then maybe it was just a fluke. Sometimes I back track a lot. Really goes to show that I have no idea what I'm doing haha. I see a lot of advice about going to the library to read up on Watercolour techniques and I'm ready to do that now. Should of done that from the start, honestly.

Thereβs the library (always fun) and the school of YouTube (which is faster). Knowledge is all around us!Β Β
Honestly, we all just learn as we go. Confidence just comes from doing something enough times. I love seeing how you progress with each new painting. It makes me want to get back into drawing tooΒ Β
