Description Homework assignment from advanced life drawing... re-make Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" in any manner we saw fit....

I took the goddess born from the ocean... and found the god who sleeps beneath the ocean to be a fitting resemblance.

I thought so. Haha.

And you get 40,000 bonus points for knowing who Cthulhu is!

Most people don't know... and don't get it.... it's sad.

Brilliant idea for the recreation! Upon first glance, aside from the title,it's unlikely one would automatically think, 'oh,the Birth of Venus'.It's really interesting to see how a similar concept, depicted with different subjects transmutes a work. Very creative.

Good focus on the light source, contrast, proportions and overall form.Is this done in acrylics? Also, toward the middle of the piece,it appears there is a 'faded',lighter area? Was that intentional or the camera flash? []

Thank you! Yeah, this piece does need a little explanation to go with it, or you really don't get the correlation between it and the "birth of venus" piece.

Actually... this is done in charcoal... on this fantastic cream colored charcoal paper... it came out so smoothly, I was astounded. Yeah... the lighting problem is due to my terrible digital camera, which refuses to take photos without the flash.. so I get these terrible light and dark spots on my pictures... someday I'll be able to replace this with a better photo once I'm out of college and get a better camera. Haha.
